I am shocked to read of Bob's passing. I met Bob when I joined Baxter in 1972 and worked with him on quite a few projects. It was awe inspiring to work with someone at the center of changing the way fluids are administered to a patient by developing the flexible container (along with Dr Ralph Bellamy). But Bob became much more than a professional colleague to me when I came down with heart disease and he guided me to the appropriate care and watched over my recovery. And then , when my brother was diagnosed with lung cancer, he was a tower of strength to me and my family during the entire time of the progression of the disease. Once more, when one of my team members came down with cancer, he stepped forward again to counsel the family and personally took care of the stricken team-mate until the very end. His humanity, compassion and steadfastness coupled with consummate skills made him a very, VERY rare and special person. Though the loss is ours now, Heaven will be a better place. My sincere condolences to the family.

Dr. Ausman was an inspiring and motivated educator. He was one of the first and one of the most important physician mentors in my life. Dr. Ausman taught the human side of medicine.
When I asked him how I could ever show my gratitude for all that I learned from him, he told me I should educate students and give to others as he had taught me.
I remember him whenever I teach students and physicians to this day. I would not have become a physician without Dr. Ausman's guidance.

My deepest sympathies to Chris and the family. We lost an amazing educator and a great man.

Dr. Ausman provided invaluable counseling to countless Baxter employees and their families over the years related to challenges associated with a cancer diagnosis. My mother-in-law was one of those who benefited from his knowledge, wisdom and controlled bedside manner. We will always be grateful for his willingness to get involved and will pray for him and his family.

My condolencies to Chris & family. When I was based in Illinois, Bob & I would often meet in Deerfield & in the evening at the Weber Grill. There we would discuss new approaches to ambulatory cancer treatment. He would always provoke new ways of thinking & stimulate me & others to improve therapy for patients. I remember when he was awarded the Baxter Humanitarian award; he was always so supportive of any employees who needed help. RIP & thanks for all your support.

Although I had spoken to Dr. Ausman over years regarding patients, I did not have the opportunity to meet him in person until I served as the nurse at Baxter Corporate Headquarters.
Dr. Ausman was a kind and caring physician whom I trusted to always give me wise counsel. He could be counted on to share his expertise whenever requested for our employees.

Dr. Ausman was leading a class when we first met. Immediately I was impressed with his knowledge and the interest he had in the students. I later contacted him for some personal advice and he graciously provided his expert opinion. Dr. Ausman's personal influence toward those he worked with and with his patient's will live on in the memories of those he touched.

I first met Bob in 1976 as a 23 year old when he walked into the laboratory in which I spent most of my time doing my Ph.D. at the University of Manchester, U.K. He immediately made me feel important, offering encouragement and ideas for the future. Then he change the course of my life by helping me come to study in the US acting as a mentor in those initial years, and always having time to offer help ever since when needed. Thank you for everything, Bob.

Bob Ausman has been a very special person to me since returning from Puerto Rico in 19179. He took a very personal interest in my recovery from Guillian-Barre and always asked "How are you doing?". He always wanted the best for his friends and acquaintances. I will miss his kindness.

Some of us have the good fortune of meeting a very special person in our lifetime. For the past 20 years of my life, Bob defined what it is to be the consummate friend, teacher, healer, mentor and business partner. Now, a void exists that cannot be filled. Memories will have to suffice. Rest in peace, my friend.

Chris, to you , your family and Bob's family, I want to express my deepest sympathy and love. Wonderful memories will always keep Bob alive in your thoughts and heart. I know there are no words sufficient to ease the sorry and pain but know you are loved and in my thoughts and prayers.

Bob Ausman was one of those unusual human beings who had the talent, ability and desire to save the lives of people without regard to their position in life, their ethnicity,or their religion and he did that without concern for financial compensation to himself--his compensation was in the knowledge that he saved lives. He was my friend and I will miss him and his advice and counsel to and his caring for me and my friends and family. Ron Galowich

What a terrible loss our family, and the medical community has suffered. On a personal note, Bobby was the reason my mother enjoyed an additional six months of life, after her cancer diagnosis. Throughout her life, she always put her cousin Bobby on a pedestal. She spoke openly and proudly of his accomplishments. I have always shared her love and admiration for Bobby, and maintain eternal thanks for the dignity and courage he inspired within our family, during her final moments. With love and our most sincere condolences.
