Robert Braeger Obituary

Born to Eternal Life on April 25, 2005, at the age 82 years. Longtime resident of Fox Point. Loving husband of 32 years of Deanna Braeger (nee Blanco). Father of Sandra (Richard) Schneider, Heidi (John) German, Lisa (George) Phelps, Amy (Todd) Reardon, David (Edith) Braeger, Katherine (Bill) Van Sciver and Grace (Bill) Harley. Proud grandfather of sixteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Elizabeth (the late R. Burt) Hiller. Also loved by other relatives and friends, especially his dog companions, Chevy I and Chevy II.

Bob attended UW-Madison and after the bombing of Pearl Harbor he enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He became a 1st Lieutenant and a navigator on the B-24 liberator "Bambi". He flew two missions over Normandy on D-Day, and was always proud of his service in the military. In later years, he became active in many military organizations which included becoming Co-Chair of the Veterans War Memorial, which is now known as America's Freedom Center. In 2002, Bob belatedly received the Distinguished Flying Cross for flying 30 missions over enemy territory during WW II.

He dedicated his life to working at Braeger Chevrolet, Inc.; a company founded by his father Oscar in 1923. He later purchased a Chrysler and a Ford dealership because he would only sell American cars. He was a representative to the Chevrolet Dealers National Council in Detroit and was very active on the Board of the Wisconsin Auto and Truck Dealers Association. Bob was also very proud to have been a recipient of the Time magazine Quality Dealer award for Wisconsin.

Bob was very supportive of the Milwaukee Boys and Girls Club, serving as President of the Board of Trustees from 1972-1974. He was a founding member of Fox Point Lutheran Church.

The family would like to extend a very heartfelt thank you to Bob's caregivers Dawn Dohmeyer, Marie Paul and all the staff and nurses at Zilber Family Hospice.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 29, from 4:00-8:00 PM at the Feerick Funeral Home. Services will be held on Saturday at 10:30 AM at Fox Point Evangelical Lutheran Church, 7510 N. Santa Monica Blvd., Fox Point. Interment at Forest Home Cemetery will be private for the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bob's name may be made to the America's Freedom Center, 750 N. Lincoln Memorial Dr., Milwaukee, WI 53202 or the Milwaukee Boys and Girls Club, 1558 N. 6th St., Milwaukee, WI 53212.

I was privileged to know Bob both as the consummate "car man" when I worked in retail and as an association leader during the time I knew him as a director of the Wisconsin Auto & Truck Dealers Association. In both settings, Bob was a natural.

I am truly sadden by the loss of Mr. Braeger. He was truly a wonderful and caring person. I am grateful for the time that I spent working with him as a Trustee of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee. I will certainly miss him and his wonderful smile.

His legacy will live on at the Clubs because of his generosity and love for the kids. He will be sorely missed by all of us.

My sincere sympathy to Deanna, a devoted wife and caregiver. Earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal. Cherish the memories!

Rest in Peace my friend,

Gloria Harris
