Russ was an outstanding teacher. I needed a one credit phy end class to graduate. I took his fishing class and wound up making fishing my career. Best teacher I ever had!

Tiedemann Family,
I would like to express my sympathy for your loss.
Mr. Tiedemann was my coach at Hortonville High in 1958; the year we almost went to the state tournament. I fondly remember him taking us to watch state tournaments and staying at his parents' home. He taught me more than basketball; he taught me values.
Sincerely,
Don Otto (class of 1959)

Russ was well known not just in Wisconsin but also to the Iowa Tiedemanns. I have fond memories of Russ, Art & Vi (Russ's folks) growing up. Art was a brother to my grandfather, Pete, and Russ was a cousin to my Dad, Harold, both of whom grew up in Muscatine, Iowa. Several years ago I got together with a few Wisconsin Tiedemanns in Milwaukee. Lee Lamars (Russ's nephew) also paid me a visit in Denver about that time and we rehashed a visit they made to my family in Iowa when we were kids. I enjoyed talking to Russ during that time along with Carol Lamers, Lee's mother. As an avid lifelong baseball player myself, I wanted to someday play in Tiedemann field amidst the steep history of many NCAA World Series held there--maybe I will with Russ looking down. Thanks for the stellar legacy, Russ, and may God's grace be with you.

I was a student of Dr. Tiedemann at UW-O during the mid 70s. I was working towards a degree in education and hoping to become a teacher and a coach. I took many of his coaching methodology courses and found them all fascinating. Because of his influence I spent 32 enjoyable years as a high school teacher and coach. I used many of Dr. Tiedemann's philosophies and techniques during practices and games. He will be missed by many but his ideas will live on.

Mrs Tiedemann and family,
I remember that Russ was a Big Brother to David Gaylor back in the late 1970s in which I was his caseworker for the organization. He always impressed me as a kind, caring gentleman who did care deeply for his family and his Little Brother. It is so wonderful there are people like him in this world. Many blessings to your family, I'm sure you have many good memories of him as well as countless others do also.

I was fortunate to have Russ for a basketball coach at Hortonville High School for one year before he left. He coached fundamentals and respect. He once told me, "Vic, if you want to play for me you have to get your hair cut". I got my hair cut. God bless the Tiedemann Family.

Dear Tiedemann Family:

Coach Tiedemann was not only the best coach many of us ever had, he was also the best classroom teacher as well. Baseball players throughout Wisconsin flocked to UWO to play for him and be part of the storied Titan Baseball program.

Coach T had the God given ability to take a bunch of 18 years and mold then into leaders - he was the master of motivation!

Coach, you will be sorely missed, but never be forgotten.

Our deepest sympathies and condolences!

Dear Tiedemann Family,
My thoughts and prayers are with all of your family. Coach taught me more than you could ever imagine. He was a great person, teacher and coach. Most of all, he could get the absolute best out of a person. May he rest in peace.

Dear Tiedemann family-

I am very sorry to hear of your loss.

The Flood's will never forget the great times we had during the summer our families lived together in the fraternity house in Greeley; and watching him coach the many baseball games at Menominee Park. He was a great leader, and a great friend to my dad.

He will be missed.

I have some 25 years of schooling under my belt and must have encountered a hundred teachers in that time. Coach was one of the best! I was also on his baseball team in 1977 and 1978 and although I never suited up for a varsity game he instantly recognized me and called me by name some 10 years after I had graduated. I did get to know Kathy and Pat a little back in the mid 70's. To you and the rest of the family, you have my condolences. He was a great man that I will never forget. God speed coach!

Dear Irene and the Tiedemann Family,
I am saddened to learn of the loss of Russ. He and all of you are part of my favorite childhood memories. The fish fries at Roberts Lake and the laughter that we all shared at the cottage are treasured memories. Russ's friendship was valued by Dad more than words can express.

My deepest sympathies go out to the Tiedemann's and their extended family. Coach Tiedemann was, and still is as significant an influence as I have had in my life. I know that I speak for hundreds of others, and they can say the same. Obviously a great coach. A Hall of Famer. He knew how to win and taught everyone how to win. But he was so much more. His presence on the field of play was one of legend. His command of the moment and the respect he received was unparalleled. But when he walked outside the lines he became what he really was, which was most important to him, and what will define him as a person; He was an incredible husband, father and grandfather....he was a great man in every respect of the word. He was a mentor. He was the "go to" man for so many. His legacy to all of us might different. For some of us we might remember seeing him on that trip to the mound..thinking..."Oh no..I really hope this goes well" but....as it would always turn out, something good came of it. He made his players better...he made everyone around him better. We are all better for having Dr. Russ Tiedemann in our lives. I am so proud to be able to say that he was my coach, that he was my mentor, and that he was my friend.
We have lost a legend. We have lost a great man. A one of a kind. When I think of Coach, that thought immediately brings a smile to my face. Really, what more can I say about the impact one man can have?
So, whoever reads this, do me a favor, when you see Irene, Pat, Kathy, Sue and Rusty, give them a hug for me. I wish I could be there to do it myself.
With Love

Mrs. Tiedemann and family,
My dad, Dr. Burton Karges, and I attended all the Titan athletic events in the old stadium behind Gieger's house. As a nine year old fan, Russ was my hero. In one game he was hurt and I sat in the stands with tears in my eyes. Another time I went into the locker room with my dad and got to shake Russ' hand. We were friends after that. I know that after graduation, you went onto a distinguished career. You and your family have my sincerest sympathies.
