Samuel Henke Obituary

Henke, Samuel Sam died peacefully in the early morning of Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at the age of 29, after fighting a courageous battle with liver disease for the last 3 months. He was surrounded by his family as he was received into the arms of Jesus, his Lord and Savior. Sam was the husband of Amy for only a short time, but she was his best friend, and truly, the love of his life for the past fourteen years. He is also survived by his parents, Rob and Jean and siblings Luke, Charlie, and Ali (Mike) Martinich. His in-laws are Jim "Spitz" and Nancy Spitzack and sisters-in-law Sarah (Scott) Gustafson and Laura (Nick) Jasurda. He is further survived by Amy's grandparents William and Margaret Scholman and Helen and the late Clarence Spitzack. Sam loved spending time with his nephew Caden and nieces Kylie Gustafson and Madysen and Reese Martinich. He was godfather to Kylie Gustafson and Zoe Keck. Sam is survived by many cousins and aunts and uncles who have loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by grandparents Pete and Jan Beauparlant and Frank and Marie Henke. Visitation will be Monday, January 7, 2013, from 3-7PM at Elmbrook Church, 777 S. Barker Road, Brookfield, WI 53045, followed by a memorial service at 7PM. Sam was a loving and attentive husband to Amy. He also loved the game of soccer; playing as a youth and in high school and college, coaching for many years, and of course watching his beloved Manchester United. He took advantage of the opportunity not only to develop soccer players, but to influence their lives for good. His soccer kids and his adult soccer buddies will deeply grieve his loss. Now Sam, you can play on that perfect pitch in heaven, the eternal field of dreams! Sam will also be missed by his Rent-A-Daughter co-workers; the girls he was surrounded by. Sam loved serving the elderly and brought so much fun and mischief and laughter to the workplace. Both the Henke and Spitzack family would like to extend a special thanks to some amazing nurses from the MICU at Froedert Hospital. Terrie, Kim, Lindsay, Kurt, Chris and Drew you were such a blessing to all of us. You took such good care of not only Sam, but of each one of us. You were not only amazing nurses; you were compassionate and kind people who made the journey easier. God bless you. Memorials to help offset medical costs to Amy Henke or www.gofundme.com/SamHenkeSupportFund are much appreciated.

10 years have elapsed since Sam passed.... Not only did I get an opportunity to coach this amazing young man, but I considered him a friend. I´m always truly impressed and proud of former players and the lives that they have formed for themselves and their families, but Sam was different. Sam was not only a gifted soccer player, great teammate to others and a leader beyond his years, but he evolved into such a wonderful proud husband and family man. I think of Sam today and I know he looks down and smiles with that amazing smile and is very proud. Rest in peace Sam....

Dear Family and Friends of Sam.
I met Sam and Any while doing Katrina work I the Biloxi area with Elm Brook and Mary Ann Lee. I also may have had Sam and Luke when they were quite young in Sunday school.
Wonderful young men and Amy is delightful.
I have been able to visit our Katrina family and so.e still write me.
Oh we all were so Blessed to be able to serve the Lord and meet all of those precious survivors.
2 year old Steven is now completing his first year of University and doing pretty well. Biloxi has grown and had more storms, but the people are stronger because of their faith in our Lord.
I know you miss Sam but he remains alive with Jesus and in our hearts God Bless.

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." - 2 Timothy 4:7

Sam truly fought the past few months, courageously and faithfully. The reference to the race brings me back to great memories of track where we first met and became friends as he fell in love with Amy. And he truly kept the faith, which was expressed at his beautiful memorial service on Monday. I will always have a special place in my heart for Sam as well as the Henke and Spitzack families. Thank you for including me in all of the special times you've gathered this past week. I feel very blessed to have been a part of it all and being there for you, has in turn helped me. Thank you. Love and prayers,

Erin (Wissmueller) Volkmann

Rob, Jean and family,

We are so sorry for the loss of Sam. We waited in honestly the longest line for a visitation we have ever been to and attended the beautiful memorial service. We were unable to get up to see you, but from afar could see the alternating peace and pain in your faces. As parents we cannot even begin to imagine your loss, but pray that the peace of The Lord be with you always.

God Bless your family,

Tony & Deb Cuda

Although I did not have the pleasure of knowing Sam well, I always thought of him as a ray of sunshine and I always will. When I did see him he was always “shining“. God really blessed us all for knowing Sam. My prayer is that the Lord will hold you all in his arms and comfort you, knowing Sam is “shining” with Jesus and one day we shall all be together again.
God Bless you and Keep you all.

I had the absolute pleasure of coaching Sam at Milwaukee Lutheran H.S. Not only was he a gifted player, but he was even a better individual. He was a tremendous role model for peers and a leader in life. I ran into Sam just a year ago or so and it was not a surprise that he turned into such a wonderful man, husband and friend. God has called upon Sam to do greater good and no doubt he will deliver. R.I.P Sam!
