Sauer, Rev. Theodore A. Pastor Theodore A. Sauer was called into the glory of everlasting life on Sunday, April 29, 2007, at the age of 91 years, 11 months, and 4 days. Survivors include one daughter: Marilyn R. Mills, Lynnwood, Washington; one son: Paul T. Sauer and his wife, Sharon, Hortonville, Wisconsin; one sister: Lois Malone, Baton Rouge, Louisiana; two brothers: Bertram Sauer and his wife Sally, Washington, Michigan; David Sauer and his wife Constance, Shorewood, Minnesota; seven grandchildren; five great-grand-children; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. Funeral services will be held at 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, May 3, 2007, at Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3209 Meadow Lane, Manitowoc. Revs. Robert Kujawski, Stephen Melso, and Waldemar Loerscher will officiate. Burial will be at Wisconsin Memorial Park, Brookfield. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, May 3, 2007, at 3:00 p.m. Please meet at the red parking area at 2:45 p.m. Relatives and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 2, 2007, at the Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home of 818 Street, Manitowoc, (920-682-0118) and again on Thursday morning at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. A large portion of his ministry was devoted to World Missions. He was missionary to the Lutheran Church of Central Africa in Zambia from 1961 to 1964 and from 1970 to 1977. In 1978 he became administrator of the WELS Board for World Missions and served until his retirement in 1984. He held various official positions, among them secretary of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod, president of the synod's Northern Wisconsin District, and chairman of the Lutheran Church of Central Africa. Following his retirement he served the church in various capacities, including that of project director for the publication of To Every Nation, Tribe, Language, and People, a history of the first one hundred years of WELS World Missions. He also co-authored Let Us Do Good, the story of the first forty years of the Central Africa Medical Mission. A Memorial Fund will be established to benefit Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Althea Sauer Scholarship Fund, (Central African Medical Mission Nurse Training Assistance).
