Thomas Dorn Obituary

Dorn, Thomas J. Of Pewaukee, born December 29, 1931 in Milwaukee to Walter and Lydia Dorn. Passed away February 8, 2008, peacefully after a long illness. Longtime resident of Brookfield. Preceded in death by son Patrick. Predeceased also by parents Walter and Lydia Dorn, as well as by siblings Agnes Gamma, Reverend Anthony Dorn, Sister Rosaleen Dorn. Survived by wife of 52 years, Barbara, son Mark of Morrison, Colorado, son Raymond of Milwaukee and daughter Julie Morrison (Paul) of Ann Arbor, Michigan; grandchildren Nathan (J'aime), Emily, Nicole, Christopher, Ashley, Stephanie Dorn, Thomas and Michael Morrison, great grandchildren Ellieyanna and Brandon Dorn. Also survived by his brother Theodore Dorn and sister Patricia Selkie, his aunt Agatha Schrang, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends. Graduate of University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Pharmacy. Served as hospital pharmacist at Sandia Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico while a member of the United States Army. He owned Tom Dorn Pharmacy in Brookfield from 1957 to 1986 and worked in several pharmacies in the Brookfield area before retirement. He was dedicated to serving his customers and his community. He was an active member of the New Berlin Kiwanis Club for many years, serving as President during the 1960's. Tom was an avid golfer, thespian, and singer, singing tenor with the Apothecanaries, a seven-man barbershop quartet which he formed with fellow pharmacy students during his years in pharmacy school at UW-Madison. The group continued to perform at reunions and get-togethers, and many of its members' children were serenaded by the group at their weddings. Tom and his wife were avid Wisconsin Badger fans, meeting for the first time at the 1952 Rose Bowl. They returned to Pasadena in 1994 and 2000 to cheer their Badgers on to victory. Tom was also a devoted fan of the Green Bay Packers. Until his illness, he and Barbara enjoyed golfing and traveling together throughout the United States. He was a great lover of music, and especially enjoyed being involved with the Kids from Wisconsin, a touring summer musical group consisting of talented young people from across the state. He passed his love of music on to his children, two of whom were in the Kids (one of whom is now the producer), and all of whom pursued music as vocation and avocation. He was beloved as a kind man, loving husband, devoted father, and caring grandfather. A Memorial Service will be held on Thurs., Feb. 14 at 5PM at Church and Chapel Funeral Home, 380 Bluemound Rd., Waukesha (4 blocks South of I-94 on the corner of J and JJ). Friends may call on Thurs. from 3PM until the time of the Memorial Service at Church and Chapel. Memorials to "Kids from Wisconsin" or a charity of choice appreciated. Dear Dorn Family,
It was with great sorrow that I learned of Tom's passing. My husband was a pharmacist at Diedrich's in the late '80's and early '90's, and I worked with Tom briefly at Market Square. I just adored him, and will never forget him. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

To the Dorn Family,
Just a note to let you know that I grew up just off the corner of Calhoun & Greenfield Ave back in the old days and boy, do I remember Tom Dorn Pharmacy. I made so many trips there as a child and an adult, I'll never forget. That is the place where I bought my penny candy! I didn't know your father well, but I remember he was always so nice to us kids. I was reading the death notices tonight and recognized the name and thought it would be nice if all his family knew what wonderful and warm memories he has left alot of people. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

To the Dorn Family,

It is with great saddness that we are writing this note. Tom was such a vibrant person, always full of mischief. We will always remember our days visiting him at the various pharmacies. Please accept our entire family's deepest sympathy.

Dear Barb and Family:
During the crazy days of the State Fair, Tom was a wonderfully calming presence -- always smiling, always helpful, always supportive. He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him. Please accept my most heartfelt sympathy.

Dorn Family:

Please accept my sincerest sympathy in the loss of your father. I remember the times we got together and played in our backyard. Your father was a great friend to my father and mother. He will be missed.

Dear Barbara and Family,
My deepest sympathy. Although I moved from Brookfield 10 years ago I did manage to see Tom several times when I visited. What a great man!
We always had such great conversations about our kids. He will be missed and may you and the kids be given the gift of acceptance. Tom has the eternal reward we are all struggling to attain.
Love and Peace, Lois Smith Goetz

It was always a great adventure to ride our bicycles down from the Westchester neighborhood to "Tom Dorn's" with our allowance or baby-sitting money tucked in our pockets, eager for comic books, candy, and, especially during those hot summer days, popsicles. Mr. Dorn was often able to step from behind the pharmacy counter to say hello and share a smile. It's a fond childhood memory.

Thank you, Tom.
