William Martin Goodman

1946 - 2016

Goodman, William Martin Passed away peacefully at his home in Milwaukee on Sunday, July 10, 2016 surrounded by family. Born February 18, 1946, Bill was a loving and beloved son, husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He was 70 years old. Bill was born in Milwaukee, the son of Dr. Jay Stephen Goodman and Fanny Prudowsky Goodman. He is survived by his wife of almost 45 years, Idy Goodman; his three children, Mollie (Andrew O'Brien) Goodman, Jacob (Sean Shepherd) Goodman, and Abby (Rose Covert) Goodman; his granddaughter, Audrey O'Brien; his siblings, Dr. J. Jay (Terry) Goodman, Jim (Caroline Zane) Goodman, and Janice (the late Avrum) Adadi; and many nieces, nephews and cousins, who all loved him dearly. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin Medical School, Bill worked as an OB/GYN for over 40 years. He did his internship at Gunderson Clinic in La Crosse, WI and his residency at Magee-Womens Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. He then worked at Dean Clinic in Madison, Wisconsin before moving to Milwaukee where he worked at Falls Medical Group, St. Michael's Hospital, Women's Outpatient Clinic, Family Health Plan and Wheaton Medical Group. He sat on Quality Assurance Committees and Ethics Committees for multiple hospitals. Bill was loved by his patients, respected by his colleagues and an engaged teacher to his residents. His wonderful sense of humor made him a favorite with the nurses and put his patients at ease. Bill brought so much life into this world: literally with the 5,000 babies he delivered, as well as with the stories he told, the yard he tended, and the joy he brought into the lives of those who knew him. His humor was playful and pure delight; those who knew him will miss his smile and laughter. Bill was deeply kind, empathetic, unassuming, a brilliant listener, easy to be around, and always doing for others. He was a mensch. Funeral services 11:30 AM Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at Congregation Sinai, 8223 N. Port Washington Rd., Fox Point. Interment at Spring Hill Cemetery, 166 South Hawley Court, Milwaukee. Memorials to the Congregation Sinai Tzedakah Fund.
