William Stone Obituary

Stone, William M. "Bill" Age 86, beloved father, adored "Opa," best friend and partner, Korean War Veteran, teacher and outstanding citizen, born Nov. 20, 1929, died peacefully on Jan. 15, 2016 amidst loved ones at his new home in Otto, NC. Bill lived a gracious and meaningful life "one day at a time", contributing his love to family and friends, his church and communities in Oconomowoc, Waukesha, Milwaukee and Madison. He was relentless in his pursuit of service to others. After graduating from Marquette High School, Bill spent decades helping others through his work as a realtor and mortgage banker; involvement in parish councils at Our Lady of Sorrows (Milwaukee), St. Jerome's (Oconomowoc) and later at St. Clare's (Wind Lake); life membership in the Waukesha Noon Lions Club; long-time liaison for the Waukesha Noon Lioness Club; mentoring at Alcoholics Anonymous, the Lake Area Club and at Rogers Memorial Hospital; teaching real estate courses at WCTI; and a myriad of other community endeavors. Bill is survived by his best friend and partner, Theresa (Terry) Poth, his five sons, their spouses and partners, and his precious grandchildren: Robert (Kristine - Riley, Tyler), Thomas (Linda - Justin), John (Julie-Tray, Adam, Karly, Rachael, Corbin), Gerald (Lesia - Benjamin, Isabella), and Paul (Helen - Michael, Bronwyn, Carolyn, Mary Kathryn); seven great-grandchildren, and other dearly loved family cousins including the DeChants, Coyles, Dawsons, Fuhrmans and Hebeins. He was preceded in death by his former wife Phyllis A. Stone, his mother Ruth M. Marlowe and cousin Bill Coyle. There will be a visitation at 11AM followed by a funeral Mass at noon celebrating Bill's life and honoring his family and friends on Saturday, January 30th at St. Jerome's Catholic Church, 955 S. Silver Lake Street, Oconomowoc (262) 569-3020. Memorials to Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or either the Waukesha Noon Lions or the Waukesha Noon Lioness Clubs will be sincerely appreciated.

Bill was a shining example of "how it works" in overcoming adversity and living a life in recovery. He touched many, many lives along his journey, mine included.

Bill will be missed by many. I had the opportunity for him to walk with me for a short time on my spiritual journey . We attended some bible studies, catechism of the catholic church and other adult education offerings at St. Clare, Wind Lake, WI. Bill always had a smile and a joke to share. He was willing to share spiritual wisdom gained from his walk with God with anyone who wanted to listen. He served on committees and chaired some as well. He was a lector and a Eucharistic minister and I believe a very young altar server. Bill continued to serve his whole life. Bill was always available willing to give of his time and talents. Bills dedication for helping those with addictions was outstanding. He served God and man quite well.

He loved his family dearly and shared many stories of his family. He was very grateful for all of them and truly enjoyed and looked forward to being with them all.

I will miss you Bill.
I am sorry I will be unable to attend your celebration of life. Larry and I will be in Arizona.

Please accept my deepest Symppathy on the passing of my friend, Bill. One memory I will cherish is driving to and from Madison with Bill where he worked and I attended UW in the 80's. He did love his pipe. I will miss his rendition of Al Jolson's 'Mammy". I have so many happy memories of Bill and Phyllis, too many to mention. Went to grade school with him. I will pray for the survivors as well as for Bill. Please have Bob or Gerry inform me about the cause of his death. My email is [email protected]. I would really appreciate it.
Love and prayers. Louise (Smolik) Huberty
