I am so sorry to read about Kens passing. While we were both born at Providence in different years, we became good friends as roommates at AMU, the year he graduated.
I saw him often when we both worked in Juneau. He was a very special person about whom I have thought often though we only talked infrequently over the last few years.
I know he loved his family very much. It was my good fortune to have known Ken and I offer my deepest condolences to the family.

I had the priviledge of knowing Ken through his work with the State of Alaska and more recently during his tenure as Personnel Director with the City & Borough of Juneau. Ken was a consumate professional in representing management's issues in everyday dealings and hard fought negotiations for labor contracts covering State and Borough employees. He was thoughtful and displayed a keen understanding of the employee side of an issue as well as managements take in bargaining. He was a pleasure to deal with and I am thankful for having known him. Ken Kareen had quiet grace and lots of class in his dealing with people and I am eternally grateful and truly honored to have worked with him. I will remember him as "one of the good guys". Rest easy Ken, your friend and colleague. Greg O'Claray.
