Lawrence Bush Obituary

Lawrence E. "Larry" Bush, 83, died Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at UPMC Hamot.
Born Oct. 9, 1934 in Kane, he was a son of the late Ralph and June Thayer Bush. On Aug. 16, 1958 in Gouldsboro, he married Jean Gower, who survives.
Before his retirement in 1996 after 38 years of service, Larry had been the manager of the Hamlin Bank in Kane. He began as a bookkeeper in 1959 and served as bank vice president and head of the Kane office since 1991 and continued to be an active board member.
Larry was a 1952 graduate of Kane High School and was a starter on the basketball team and a pole vaulter in track. He attended Bloomsburg State College on a basketball scholarship and was a starter in his freshman year on a team that won the State Teachers College Conference championship. He also finished third in the state conference track meet in his freshman and sophomore years. He remained active in sports as a golfer and a bowler.
He served in the U.S. Army and continued a 20-year career in the Army Reserves before retiring in 1978.
Larry was a member of the Kane Elks and a member and past president of the Kane Country Club where he also served as secretary-treasurer for 19 years. He was an active member of the Friends Memorial Library where he had served as vice president.
He was a member of Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church and had served as treasurer of the church's endowment fund committee. He also served on the endowment fund committee at the former Kane Community Hospital and was a past president of the Kane United Way.
Larry served as a board member and treasurer of the Lutheran Home at Kane and was affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America for 27 years and was a past scoutmaster and district chairman.
He had been a member of the Kiwanis Club and later the K Club for many years and had served as president six times. In 1985, he was one of five members of a committee which reviewed applications and distributed more than $100,000 in donations to victims of the tornado.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three daughters, Debi (Randy) Larson of Kane, Terri Bifano of Shippenville and Kelly (Tom) Zampogna of St. Marys; a son, Dave (Maria) Bush of Charlotte, North Carolina; three granddaughters, Brandi Nicklas of Kane, Ashley Zampogna-Krug of Freehold, New Jersey and Jessie Bifano of Houston, Texas; two grandsons, Chris (Abby) Zampogna of St. Marys and Justin (Kate) Bifano of Knox; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and his brother, Sonny (Janice) Bush of Kane.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Bush.
Friends and family may attend a memorial service for Lawrence E. Bush at Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church at noon on Saturday, March 24 with the Rev. William Waterman, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Tabor Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Friends' Memorial Public Library, 230 Chase St., Kane, Pa. 16735.

Larry was a lifelong friend of mine. I always admired him for his achievements in life and his love and support for his hometown. He was everyones friend. He will be sorely missed at the Saturday morning breakfast meetings with his friends. He was a real inspiration to me.
