Antonio "Tony" Durano, Jr., M.D.
July 13, 1929 - February 3, 2023
Wichita, Kansas - Dr. Antonio "Tony" C. Durano Jr. M.D. died on February 3, 2023 at the age of 93 surrounded by his family in Wichita, Kansas.
Tony was born on July 13, 1929 in Danao City, Cebu, Philippines, the oldest of 10 children born to Antonio M. and Roberta (Cala) Durano. In spring 1945, the US Army arrived at Talisay Beach near his home in Cebu. At the age of 15, Tony spent three months volunteering as an interpreter/guide for the Americal Division of the US Army as they liberated the island.
Tony went on to earn his medical degree at Manila Central University in 1956, before immigrating to the United States in 1957. He completed his residency in urology at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita and opened a private practice in the city, which he ran until 2005. He then continued practicing general medicine in western Kansas in the communities of Elkhart, Ulysses and Liberal until 2017.
Tony is survived by his daughter Rebecca (Steve) Allen, son Tony (Cathy) Durano and son Rich Durano, grandchildren Erika (Kamil) Stasiuewicz, Angie (Ryan) Daugherty, Tori Allen, Mara Allen, Lauren (Gavin) Smith, Alex Durano, Shyla (Zach) Kaufman, Danni (Jed) Sullivan, Alora Durano, and 15 great-grandchildren, siblings: George, Eustacio, Asuncion Rivera, Natividad (Fred) Almeda, Bibiana Durano, Floro, Roy and Kay Galeos.
He is preceded in death by his former wife, Janice, parents, and his brothers Cesar and Floro.
On Thursday, February 9 at 9 AM, a visitation will take place at Mary Immaculate Church located at 1800 S Washington in Wichita. The Rosary will begin at 9:30 AM, followed by the funeral mass at 10 AM.
Charitable donations can be made to the medical, dental, and educational mission Tony supported through the Danao Association USA, Inc. C/O Martinette Dayondon, 8893 Jefferson Dr., Buena Park, CA 90620.
