David Thompson Obituary

David Neal Thompson

January 27, 1954 - May 17, 2025

Wichita, Kansas - David "Dave" Thompson, 71, passed away peacefully at his home in Paradise, TX., on May 17, 2025, from complications of Parkinson's disease, surrounded by his family.

Dave was born on January 27, 1954, in Amarillo, TX, to Francis Neal and Christine Thompson. When he was three years old, Dave and his family moved to Wichita, KS. His father, Neal, joined the aircraft industry, a beloved legacy of the Thompson family. It was there that Dave graduated from South High School in 1972, and married his wife of 51 years, Diana Thompson, on March 16, 1974.

A career entrepreneur, Dave, alongside his wife, built a legacy in the Wichita pet industry. Together they grew a successful retail and wholesale pet business. Many lifelong friendships were gained through their successful training and showing of animals in the Wichita community. Dave, known for his business intellect, served as a business confidant to many. Known as a fair, honest businessman, his humble nature shined. Dave could be found at a local breakfast cafe talking politics or business.

An avid history buff and classic car lover, Dave will be remembered for his infectious laugh that filled the room. Event organizing became a post-retirement endeavor, his '70 Chevelle, along with his old car guys, made for cherished friends and memories.

He moved back to Texas to be with his grandchildren in his last few years. All that knew Dave expected a grandchild in tow and understood they were the absolute light of his eye.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of the home, Diana Thompson; his son, Chad Thompson of Fort Worth, TX; his daughter, Annette Hamil (Heath Hamil) of Paradise, TX; grandchildren, Mckenzie Thompson, Corbin Hamil and Kendall Hamil, all of Paradise, TX; his sister, Suzanne Brown (Steve Brown) of Aurora, Oregon; and nephews, Jeremy, Jeremiah and Jimmy Bishop.

The family will host a celebration of his life October 18, 2025, at 2 p.m. at the Wichita Airport Hilton. His final resting place will be Resthaven in Wichita, KS.

I met Dave when he was 19 years old, he worked for me in my pizza store. We used to take our dog in and Diana would groom the dog. The last time I saw him was at the copper oven. Deep condolences for his whole family.
