Douglas Keeling Obituary

Douglas (Doug) Jay Keeling, 67, passed away on October 4, 2025, in Cascade, Colorado after a courageous battle with cancer. Doug was a man of many talentsa devoted father, loving husband, honest, committed, strong willed, determined, an author, an adventurer, a great writer, artistic in nature, highly intellectual, and an attorney. In his law career he helped many families to adopt children. His practice concentrated on adoption, foster care and related children's legal issues. He was loved by his clients. Doug authored three books. He completed many beautiful pieces of art in his lifetime. Graduate of Wichita Southeast, Kansas State University and Washburn Law. Doug loved the outdoors and animals, especially his beloved dogs. Doug was born on March 30, 1958 in Wichita, Kansas to Jay and Nancy Keeling. Doug is survived by his wife, Susie, his mother Nancy Keeling, his mother-in-law Dot Dwerlkotte, children Kyle Ann Keeling (Kyle) and Michael Keeling (Abigail), grandson Jude Keeling, sisters Susan Herrick (Chris) and Karen Peck (Bob), sister-in-law Christy Scott (Casey), brother-in-laws Bob (Kim) and Steve (Shrise) Dwerlkotte and nephews and nieces he adored. He was proceeded in death by his wife Julie Shrum Keeling, his father Jay Keeling, father-in-law Joe Dwerlkotte, in-laws Bob and Bev Shrum and his nephews RJ and Sam Peck. The family wishes to express gratitude to the many friends and family who assisted Doug and Susie through his brave journey. Doug's celebration of life will take place on October 18, 2025, 10:30 a.m. at Holy Savior Catholic Church, 3000 E. 13th St. N., Wichita, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Brain Foundation or Promise Bound.

What an intelligent, caring gentleman. I had the privelige to work with Doug from the start of his legal career. Unlike so many attorneys, his career was putting familys together and bring joy to his clients.
