Dear Chris, Angela, and Mike. We were so sad to hear of the passing of your mother, Jocelyn. To us she was such a fantastic person as was your dad. We first met your parents back in the days when you three were young children and your parents were into the Amway business. Your mother also had a side line of baking cakes which I think she was starting to phase out. Kiela and I wanted to share a story with you that would demonstrate what a wonderful person Jocelyn was. My wife Kiela and I were married here in Wichita at The Old Cowtown Museum on May 21, 1983. Kiela ordered a fancy wedding cake from a local French bakery here in Wichita. Kiela gave them a magazine photo of the cake she wanted, but specified there was to be no nuts in or on the cake due to my severe allergy to nuts. Your mother offered to bake us an additional sheet cake just in case the wedding cake wasn’t enough to feed everyone. We told her that wasn’t necessary. Well, the day of our wedding arrived and so did our wedding cake, covered with nuts all around it! Kiela was in tears. Her beautiful wedding day was ruined. Then, low and behold, your mother shows up with this huge beautiful sheet cake that she baked just for us, complete with frosting and decorations in Kiela’s wedding colors. Your mother saved the day. Kiela’s tears turned from those of sadness to those of joy. There was plenty of cake to go around and even some left over for saving. This is how wonderful your mother was. Through the years we kind of lost track of your parents and you three kids, probably about the time you moved from your Everett Street home. I met your dad once or twice at Boeing, yet I never knew he had passed away nor when your mom left Wichita. My apologies. Anyway, we wanted to share this cake story with you three and again let you know how sad we are to learn of Jocelyn’s passing. Jocelyn was a warm, kind, wonderful person. Her absence from this world will be truly missed. May her memory be as a blessing. -- Mark & Kiela Ross --

Please accept our sympathy. We remember with fondness our time in Wichita and the hospitality of the Langhofers. Jocelyn was always easy to talk to and friendly to everyone. May God be your comforter.

Grief can be so hard, but our special memories help us cope. Remembering Jocelyn and the family today and always with prayer. May God be with the family all the while we mourn ...
