Don't know if the family is still checking this, but I just found out that Mr. Brown passed away through facebook. He was my algebra teacher at Hadley in the mid 90's. He was, and is my favorite teacher that I had throughout school. So much fun and he always had a smile and laugh for us. I think of him when reminiscing about the "good old days" and wonder where he is now. Well, now I know, and I am really saddened to hear that he passed all too young. My condolences to his family. I can only imagine how blessed you were to have him as a father/grandfather. He was very much loved and will always be remembered very fondly.

Brown family - I am very sad and tears are running down my cheeks. I just heard about the passing of Mike. I grew up with your mom (Barb). She was Barbara Ellen and I was Barbara Jane! Our grade school class had 5 students and 2 of us were Barbara's! I learned to know your Dad at Bethel. I remember taking Math classes with him and I am not surprised to hear all the good comments from students about him teaching Math! When I told him I knew Barb, he asked me all kind of questions about her - I remember going to your Mom and saying - Mike is going to ask you out and how excited she was. Your Dad and Mom were both awesome people - I can only imagine what awesome kids you are! Please Know you and your extended family are in my prayers! Cherish your memories, stick together, and lean on God through this very difficult time and always!

The summer of ‘74, Jessie Hall, Jerome Doyle and Mike Brown made history and one still lives to tell about it. Three Bethel transplants, living in a basement, packing 2 sandwiches a night, one sweet (peanut butter and jelly), the other meat (bologna, spam or ham) in order to save enough money to make it through one more fall semester at Bethel. No more $2.99 chicken wing dinners on Sunday or unscheduled free meals at Pizza Hut….. All three were special people, but the glue of the group, the “can’t we all just get along” or the “let’s do what ever it takes to make this work” was Mike Brown. He was always low key, respectful, protective, unselfish, and always a friend. On the other side, friends and family who preceded him will laugh at his stories, appreciate his goodness and welcome his spirit. Those us left will honor him by thinking of him, speaking of him, and missing him. May God wrap His comforting arms around Mike’s family and friends and give them peace.

Dear Brown Family.
I played football and ran track with Mike at Bethel College. Many years would pass between meetings for us after college, but when we did cross paths, Mike would ALWAYS be the nice, friendly GREAT guy that I remembered from our younger days. He was quite proud of his family and I will keep you in my prayers.
Travel well, Mike. You will be missed.

Michael, Andrew and Danielle –
Your mom, Barbara, was my cousin and Mike and I were on the track team together at Bethel (back in the olden days). Mike was one of the most easy-going, personable guys I know, and even though we didn’t stay in touch on a regular basis, due to geographic restraints, it was always fun to catch up with him the few times we ran into each other back in KS at family or college functions. He was a good friend and a good man. I’m so sorry for your loss, rather all of our loss, and you are in our thoughts and prayers. I’m grabbing a hammy in Mike’s honor (I’ll explain that to you someday).

I worked with Mike at Mead Middle School. He was a favorite pal! He always made me laugh. I will miss him a great deal.
After I learned of his loss, I shared memories of Mike with a good friend. She gasped and said, "Mr. Brown was the best algebra teacher I ever had!" She said she really struggled with algerbra and that Mike took the extra time and effort to make it understandable to her.
Mike Brown was a highly effective teacher and a good friend! My condolences to his famiy.

Michael, Andrew, Danielle,
I was so sorry to hear of your loss! It was over 10 years ago that I left Andover, but had the opportunity to reconnect with your Dad while he was at Curtis a few years back. I will always remember his chickens, his vegetables, and his laugh! You all have had to deal with too much, too soon. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I met Big Mike while attending Pitt State with his two sons (and future daughter-in-law). We always looked forward to him coming down to visit. He had a warmth and personality that everyone seemed to gravitate towards. I will miss him and feel blessed for the short time that I got to know him. He treated everyone like they were his own son or daughter and truly set an example for what a parent should be.

Michael was my friend and a neighbor while he lived in Ft.Lauderdale, Florida. When I heard the news of his death today I could not believe that he was gone. To help myself cope with this painful news I started to think about all the fun we had growing up as kids in our neighborhood. We will miss Mike. To his children, his brother Greg and everyone that he inspired in someway, I pray that the Lord will comfort and embrace you with his loving arms and help us to rejoice in Michael's "Home Going Celebration". May God Bless you.

I was in Mr. Browns room my eighth grade year at Hadley 15 yrs ago. He was a great man who I dearly respected. Mr. Brown will truly be missed by many. If all teachers were like him, this world would be a better place. He cared for his students and their future. My daughter had the joy of being in his classroom for two years, and learned more from him than from any other teacher. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

I taught with Mike Brown for the last 5 and a half years and besides a co-worker, he was a friend. He was kind, gentle, funny and truly a big kid at heart. The memory I will carry with me the most is his dancing with each female team member during his final dance as a teacher! My thoughts and prayers go out to his family - especially his grandchildren - whom he adored. Heaven gained a warm booming presence on Friday when Mike danced through the pearly gates. I will miss him greatly!

I taught with Mike Brown for the last 5 and a half years and he was truly a great man. He was kind, funny, and a great friend to everyone who knew him. He loved and lived life to the fullest! I will miss him greatly. One of the best memories I have happened at our last 8th grade dance, before he retired, he danced with each and every female memeber of our team. I will cherish that dance! My thoughts and prayers are with his family, especially his grandkids whom he adored. Heaven gained a shining, bigger than life personality on Friday when Mike walked through the pearly gates!

Michael, Andrew, and Danielle,
We are so saddened to have lost your Dad so soon; right now, all we can offer you are our love, prayers, and thanks to God for the memories we have of him (always a cup of coffee before choir on Sunday morning; always a BIG laugh; always wanting to go find a buffet with crab legs AFTER church, OR Chinese, or both; which we DID actually manage to do one time!)....and too many more for this space.....we hope there are lots of happy memories for each of you (and your families as his grandpa and father-in-law) to help you as you grieve.....

I've sat in Mr. Brown's classroom at Stucky many times with my granddaughter and have really enjoyed his methods of teaching. I only wished that more teachers were just that "Teachers", He truly will be missed by all those he taught and came in contact with. Thank you for sharing him with all of us.
