R.G. Funderburg Obituary

Funderburg, R.G. "Doc" Age 96 of Wichita, KS passed away December 12, 2018. He was born in Vinita, Oklahoma on October 10, 1922 to parents Edward and Ida Fundferburg. He had three brothers Hank, Earl and Earnest Funderburg, All have proceeded "Doc" in death. Doc grew up in the area of Vinita, Oklahoma, attending school at White Oaks and Ironside. During World War II, he enlisted on January 13, 1942 in the Army Air Force and was later stationed in Kimbolton, England with the 379th Bombardment Group, through June 26th 1945. While there he flew missions over Europe as a waist gunner on the B17. After returning to Kansas Doc received his Dental Degree from the Washington University School of Dentistry in 1955 and in 1956 while residing in Wichita, Kansas he started his dental practice in Derby, Kansas. Doc's favorite hobby was skeet shooting and was an active member of the Ark Valley Gun Club. He was proud of the many trophies and medals he won, until 2010 when he stopped competing and shooting. Doc was equally proud of the lifelong friendships he developed at the gun club. A memorial service will be held at Luginbuel Funeral Home in Vinita, Oklahoma on December 18, at 1:00 p.m. Burial afterwards in Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers and in memory of R.G. Funerburg donations can be made to the Ark Valley Gun Club, 4500 E 117th N Kechi, Kansas 67067. [email protected]

I remember Doc as a very close friend to my uncle, Forest Montgomery, who was also a member of the Gun Club and passed away in 2000. They had lots of good times hunting and at the gun club, and my Dad and I also shot skeet there, when visiting. RIP, Doc!

Skeet shooting with Doc! If he broke one nicely, He would say "like diced carrots!"
My mother and Father shoot skeet at ArkValley Gun Club. Later in the 1960's, I was trap boys, later on, I would shoot with Doc. What a rare treat never upset always with a story to tell.

So sorry for the loss. Leon enjoyed shooting skeet with Doc and really loved being around him. I enjoyed him as my dentist as he always did a great job! We will really miss him. God's blessing to all.
