Steven Lucas Obituary

Lucas, Steven Ellsworth, of Tyler, Texas, died Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011, in a motor vehicle accident enroute to Tyler after celebrating Thanksgiving with family and friends. Steve was born in Wichita on May 18, 1947 to Charles Sheldon Lucas and Mary C. Bertram (Floyd). He was preceded in death by both of his parents as well as his youngest brother Greg Lucas, his twin sister Diana Kay Winter, and his younger brother Mark A. Lucas. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Karen J. Lucas; brother-in-law Wayne Winter of Wichita; sister in-law Karin Lucas of Lancaster, TX; Erica Lucas of Wichita; three nephews and one niece. While in Wichita, Steve worked at Boeing as an engineering specialist-program runner, participated actively in drag racing, and was a collegiate referee for many sports venues in the State of Kansas. But his passion was bringing joy and laughter to many around the world and at home as a professional clown, a.k.a. Flower the Clown. His tag line for his many performances was "Remember, Don't Forget to Laugh!" His joyous spirit is now entertaining the angels in Heaven! God's peace and grace be with all and don't forget to laugh. In celebration of Steve's life, a visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2 with a memorial service to follow immediately at Green Acres Baptist Church. As a young man I met Flower through my father who was good friends with him. I have very fond memories of him and remember doing shows at Joyland with him. I would climb into his exploding safe dressed as a gorilla and chase him. I remember going to his house and watch him shoot a rubber chicken out of a cannon. But the most memorable was when they paid the city of Wichita off with nickels after hitting Vern Miller with a whip cream pie. May you rest in peace.
