Annette Bloch
December 6, 1926 - July 17, 2021
Kansas City, Missouri - Annette Modell Bloch of Kansas City, MO and Palm Springs, CA, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by the family she treasured on July 17, 2021.
Born Dec. 6, 1926 to Lenore and Philip Modell in Philadelphia, Pa. on Wingohocking Street, she moved to Kansas City when she married Richard Bloch on June 16, 1946. They were married for 58 years, until Richard passed away.
She is survived by 3 daughters, Barbara Huson (Lee), Nancy Linsley (Michael), and Linda Lyon (Mike), 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
She and Dick founded the RA Bloch Cancer Foundation in 1980 when he was cured after being diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. They worked tirelessly supporting cancer patients worldwide.
She was a passionate philanthropist and loved to do things in a big way. She supported the University of Kansas Health System in Kansas City, the Desert Aids Project in Palm Springs (DAP Health), the Palm Springs Art Museum and received many honors for her charitable projects.
Annette loved her life, loved to travel, entertain, and more than anything, loved her family. One of her deepest desires, she always said, was to make a difference in other people's lives and especially to be an inspiration to younger women. She touched the lives of so many, treating everyone as if they were the most important person to her.
For the last 17 years, she's been beautifully supported and loved by her devoted partner, Andrei Muresan.
At 94 she was working out 5 days a week, growing ever younger and more vital until cancer caught up with her. Her family and friends mourn her loss and will miss her very much.
The family is having a private burial and hopes to celebrate her life with parties in Kansas City and Palm Springs in the near future. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to The University of Kansas Health System, 2330 Shawnee Mission Parkway, Ste 305, Westwood, Kansas 66205 or DAP Health, 1695 North Sunrise Way, Palm Springs, CA 92262. Rest in Peace Angel. While I just became Annette and Andrei's neighbor in Palm Springs a mere 4 months ago, Annette was the first to ensure I knew if there was anything at all she could do for me, she would be there. Always the first with a compliment, an offer to go out to dinner, or just a kind word, she was someone I looked forward to spending much time with as a neighbor for a long time to come. The world was truly a better place for this generous and kind woman to be in it! I am so very very sad today and know when I get back to Palm Springs the neighborhood will never be the same. Andrei, we are here for you my dear. We will comfort you in the desert and know you are loved!
