Betsi Krumm Obituary

Betsi Brooks Krumm, 32, Leawood, KS, died Friday, October 3, 2003, at St. Luke's Hospital after a long, courageous, graceful, and dignified fight against a rare form of cancer. She lived every day of her life to the fullest. Betsi was born September 11, 1971, in Kansas City, MO. She graduated Cum Laude from the Barstow School, where she was homecoming queen and The Kansas City Star Scholar/Athlete of The Year in 1990. She graduated from The University of Kansas with a Masters Degree in Education in 1995. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. Betsi was a third grade teacher at Clardy School, North Kansas City. She married Dr. Berent J. Krumm on June 6, 1998, and they moved to South Bend, IN, where their two daughters, Mackenzie Keltner Krumm and Kennedy Christine Krumm, were born. Betsi and Berent and their daughters returned to Kansas City in 2001. Betsi's dream was to create her own very special family. Her main goal in life was to find the perfect husband, and then to be the world's greatest mom. She accomplished both. She was above all else a people person. She loved everyone she met and they knew it instantly. Her spirit and energy were contagious, and her circle of friends was both huge and diverse. Betsi is survived by Berent, Mackenzie, and Kennedy, of the home; her parents Cheri and Bob Brooks, Olathe, KS; her brother Bucky Brooks and wife Beverly, Mission Hills, KS; her sister Staci Tate and husband Blair, Overland Park, KS; her sister Mindi Woodson and husband Jim, Dedham, MA; her grandmother Grace Keltner, Overland Park, KS; her nieces and nephews Claire, Caffrey, Caroline, Davis, and Catherine Brooks, Brooks, Logan, Sky, and Corey Tate, and Libby and Betsi Kate Woodson; her mother and fatherin-law Shirley and Jim Krumm, Louisburg, KS; and her aunt and uncle, Barbi and Bob McNay, Stanley, KS. Visitation is 4:30 p.m., and Memorial Service is 6 p.m. Tuesday, October 7 at Church of the Resurrection at 13720 Roe. Private family interment Wednesday, October 8 at Newcomer's Johnson County Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Betsi Brooks Krumm Memorial Fund at the Barstow School, 11511 State Line Road, Kansas City, MO, 64114. (Arr. D.W. There is not a single day that goes by when I don't think about Betsi. Having Mackenzie and Kennedy in my wedding on June 19th was the most gratifying way for me to celebrate Betsi's life on a day when she should have been front and center with me. I will always be thankful for the gift of her friendship.

Dear Brooks and Krumm Families, I am so very sorry for your loss. I am flooded with childhood memories of Betsi back flipping across the MHCC golf course and singing Sheena Easton's Morning Train with all the unabashed heart and soul in the world. Her energy will always be with everyone who knew her.

Dearest Krumm and Brooks families-

I was speechless and shocked to learn that such a fun-loving person has left us. I will always remember Betsi as my childhood swim competitor with the red finger (from eating Kool-Aid powder)! Heaven is lucky to have her. May peace find her family and friends.

Betsi was a dear friend who always gave me a reason to smile and laugh -- even when she was laughing at me. She had a beautiful heart and she was never shy to share it. Her family gave us a great gift, one that will be deeply missed but remembered with great fondness.
