CONSTANCE NOAH Obituary

Constance K. Noah died at home, surrounded by her family, in La Jolla CA, Saturday, January 21, 2012. She was born March 15, 1926, in Kansas City, MO, to Eugene and Helen Kiger. After graduating from Vassar College, she returned to KCMO, to raise a family with her husband, Richard Wiles, Jr. They had three daughters and a son. Connie had loved La Jolla since childhood and moved there in 1968 with her children and second husband, Brooks C. Noah. She served as Las Patronas President, 1973-1974, and was Jewel Ball Chairman in 1976. Connie began a very successful career in interior design at the age of 50. Connie was a prolific designer, highly sought after for her unique creativity, which spanned all areas of home design, often working from the ground up with architects and builders toward the most intricate of fine finishing touches. She designed furniture for her clients, and together with her husband, Brooks, created a line of chandeliers and fine jewelry, Chanestelle. She felt at home in Italy, and its influence was often displayed in her work, which was celebrated in numerous magazines such as, Architectural Digest, Veranda, House Beautiful, as well as in several books on design. Her immense grace, elegance, wisdom and ageless beauty will be deeply missed. Connie was preceded in death by her husband of forty-four years, Brooks Noah, who died September 15, 2011. She also lost her son, Richard E. Wiles, III, and her sister, Jeannie Otness. She leaves behind daughters: Wendy Wiles Kase, Robin Wiles, and Blair Wiles Milazzo; grandsons: Wiles Kase, Richard Wiles IV, Cruz Wiles; her sister, Susan Davis Thorne; daughter-in-law, Lisa Wiles; son-in law, Tom Milazzo; and stepdaughters, Susan Hensel and Deborah Lawrence; plus numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The Pembroke Hill School, and San Diego Hospice.

Petite, elegant, always well dressed...and then she greeted you with 'hi babe!'. Our first job with her was a doozy. She whisked us off to Jamaica to paint murals and finishes in a lovely vacation home. She was easy going and said she knew  we would do something fabulous for the client and so we worked like stink for her. She knew how to get the best from us.  Everybody that she worked with fell for her charm.  When we were out in CA, we'd swing by the house to say hello, dressed in our paint clothes. Connie would greet us at the door with hugs. Lena once commented that she was looking so thin. Connie shot back, 'Well, when you get old, you either get fat or you get thin!' We would get ushered into her elegant living room and Brooks would make drinks and put out cheese and crackers. Connie would then proceed to give us her full attention, wanting to know everything that was happening in our lives. She wrapped us in love and concern. We will never forget her.

Connie and I were in the same class at Sunset Hill. She was a wonderful person...so kind and caring. I recall fondly the many good times we had growing up. She was the epitome of grace and class. She was a very intelligent woman and extremely talented. I last spent time with her several years ago at her home in California and found her to have remained the wonderful woman I knew so well in school. I was saddened to learn of her death and my condolences go out to her family...she was indeed a class act!

We just returned from a trip yesterday and were so saddened by the news of Connie. Besides enjoying working on her "Concert in the Park" Jewel Ball (still a favorite of mine) she helped me with the remodel of my present home in l985 and additional times when advice and updates were needed. The best part was that she could convince my husband that things needed to be changed!!! We think of her often since we look at our fireplace and TV cabinet daily and they were her designs.
What a great loss to your family and LaJolla.

Although, I have never met Connie in person I feel, as if I have, for the many people I know that knew her, all speak volumes of greatness about her. What a journey of life she lived and a legacy about life she has passed on to those that either knew her personally or, as I, through those that did.

Your home was beautiful tonight in candle light...I was so sad and so bereft to blow the last one out.
