Dixie Stephens Obituary

Dixie Stephens
April 5, 1951 - June 10, 2023
Blue Springs, Missouri - Dixie Lee (Scott) Stephens, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, passed away on June 10, 2023, at the age of 72 after receiving a liver transplant in December 2022 due to organ failure. Dixie fought bravely throughout her illness, encouraged by the overwhelming support of her family and friends, who stood by her side until she entered through the glorious gates of heaven.
Dixie was born on April 5, 1951, in Independence, Missouri. She graduated from Truman High School in 1969. Her first job was at Fun House Pizza in Independence. Dixie earned her nursing degree from Jennie Lund School of Nursing in Independence. She worked at Independence Regional Health Center and later Centerpoint Medical Center where she made many life-long friends. She retired in 2021 after many years of service.
Dixie met the love of her life, Gene Stephens, in 1975 after being introduced by her mother. They were married on June 27, 1976.
Dixie loved life and lived it to the fullest. She enjoyed the holidays, travelling, camping, attending concerts and spending time with her family and friends. Her FOMO created a life full of love, laughter and shenanigans.
Dixie is survived by her husband, Gene Stephens; children Jeff Stephens (Samantha), Nicki Garrett (Lonnie) and Randy Stephens (Brandee); grandchildren Nathan Huffman (Alix), Ben Huffman (Taylor), Peyton Stephens, Cade Stephens, Olivia Garrett and Jillian Garrett; sister Cindy Scott; and many cherished nephews, nieces, cousins and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Geri Scott, and father, Sparky; her mother- and father-in-law, Paul and Lois Stephens; her sisters-in-law Janet Large, Shelley Stephens and Debbie Stephens; her brother-in-law John Stephens; and her nephew Rob Large.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Blue Springs Elks Lodge, 100 NE Brizendine Road, Blue Springs, MO 64014, on Sunday, June 18. The receiving line will begin at Noon with a tribute to Dixie at 12:30 p.m. and lunch at 1 p.m. The family will continue to receive visitors until 4 p.m. Everyone is welcome. I'm so sorry to hear that Dixie's transplant did not give her many more years of fun with her family and friends. She was such a sweet lady. She was my ex-husbands cousin. God bless you all thru this time.

I worked with Dixie at CenterPoint medical center.
I really enjoyed our friendship. She was always so helpful to all the patients, helping them get their needs met as a Social Worker.
A wonderful Woman!!!
