Dora Stolfus Obituary

Dora Stolfus
December 2, 1933 - July 6, 2022
Bonner Springs, Kansas - Dora Lou Stolfus, 88, of Bonner Springs, Kan., peacefully passed away in her sleep on July 6, 2022, at a nursing facility in Bonner Springs.
Dora was born Dec. 2, 1933, to Mildred (Scoville) and Louie Maag at the hospital in Ottawa, Kan. She graduated valedictorian of her 1951 class of Appanoose High School and then graduated from Central Business College in Kansas City, Mo. She worked for Southwestern Bell Co. in Topeka, Kan., and Manhattan, Kan.
On August 20, 1960, she married Theodore Alan Stolfus in Topeka. The two met in 1956 on a blind date at a Kansas State Student Union dance, where Ted was a student. After marrying, the couple lived in Manhattan until Ted graduated with his veterinary medicine degree in 1962. They moved to Tyndall, S.D., for Ted's first job as a veterinarian and then in 1963 to Ted's hometown of Bonner Springs, where he opened his own veterinary clinic.
Dora was a homemaker and assisted Ted with his veterinary practice. She actively volunteered all her life and was a leader in many organizations, including New Century Club, Jolly Jills Club of the K-State Extension Family and Community Education Association and was a Wyandotte County polling clerk. She also enjoyed singing in the Kaw Valley Community Chorus.
In 1964, Dora joined the First Christian Church in Bonner Springs, where she shared her talents by teaching Sunday School, serving on numerous committees and the church board, sharing her faith as an elder, leading the Christian Women's Fellowship, starting weekly church services at Bonner Springs Nursing Home and always singing in the choir.
She was a dedicated mother to their three children and was proud of them all for graduating from Bonner Springs High School and K-State, both schools Ted graduated from. Though her family and friends will miss Dora's supportive love, enthusiastic babysitting, fondness for blue-and-white dishes, appreciation of the beautiful nature of Kansas and being the ultimate Wildcat football fan, we rejoice that she is free from the dementia that clouded her final years.
She is survived by her husband, Ted, of the home; two daughters, Kyla (Brian) Rosenberger of Aledo, Texas, and Kecia Talbot of San Rafael, Calif.; son Alan Stolfus (Valyne Pochop) of St. Joseph, Mo.; two sisters, Donna (Carl) Eichenberger of Pomona, Kan., and Linda (Jan) Perney of Evanston, Ill.; brother Jim (Kathy) Maag of Topeka; five grandchildren, Amelia, Andrew, Emily (Lucas), Adam and Julia; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 29, at Alden-Harrington Funeral Home Family Event Center, 214 Oak St., Bonner Springs. A memorial service begins at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 30, at First Christian Church, 148 N. Nettleton, Bonner Springs, Kan., 66012. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
