Michael Merle Drennon, age 78, of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, January 28th, 2026, while surrounded by his loving family. Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. with the Funeral Service at 11 a.m., both on Thursday, February 5th, 2026, at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Edwardsville Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Bonner Springs VFW Post 6401.

Mike was born on June 29, 1947, in Kansas City, Kansas, and was the oldest of two sons born to Merle S. & Mary C. (Harper) Drennon. Mike grew up in Edwardsville and graduated from Bonner Springs High School in the Class of 1965. In 1966, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served two years in Vietnam. While in Vietnam, Mike was wounded in action and was awarded a Purple Heart. After returning from the service, he joined the Bonner Springs VFW and has been a member ever since. Mike later furthered his education at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, earning a BS in Recreation Therapy. He worked as a Recreation Therapist in Hutchinson, Kansas, and later with the VA Medical Center in St. Louis. In 2008, Mike married his High School Sweetheart, Vivian, in Edwardsville, Kansas. In his retirement, Mike was very active with the Bonner Spring VFW's Color Guard. Mike was a sports fanatic! He loved watching the Jayhawks, the Royals and the Chiefs play any chance he could. He enjoyed spending family time at Table Rock Lake during many 4th of Julys.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, and two daughters: Stacie Johnsonston, and Michelle Richardson.

Survivors include his wife Vivian Drennon of the home, four children: Danny Schupp and wife Michelle of Overland Park, KS., Eric Schupp and wife Lacena of Lenexa, KS., Angela Schupp of Olathe, KS., Amy Schupp of Overland Park, KS., his brother Monty C. Drennon of Edwardsville, KS., his mother-in-law Juanita M Knetzer of Kansas City, KS., 17 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren. As well as several cousins, other extended family, and many friends.
