Robert Vickers Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Alden-Harrington Funeral Home, Inc. on Jan. 23, 2026.
Robert Norman Vickers "Bob," 84, a long-time resident of the Bonner Springs area and most recently of Basehor, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at the Stratford Commons Memory Care Center in Overland Park, Kansas. Born on April 11, 1941, in Willow Springs, Missouri, Robert was a beloved son of the late Jack and Dorthy Vickers. He was proud to be the oldest of three sons, growing up with a spirit of determination and camaraderie in the Monticello area where he made friendships that have lasted a lifetime. A proud alumnus of Bonner Springs High School, Class of 1959, Robert's life took a significant turn during his sophomore year when he met his beloved Connie Clapper. Their high school romance blossomed, leading to their marriage in 1961, a union that spanned over 56 devoted years.

Robert was a true embodiment of the American entrepreneurial spirit. He founded Vickers Trucking, starting with a single vehicle and meticulously building it into a thriving enterprise with a fleet of over 20 trucks. His dedication and hard work allowed him to successfully lead the business for an impressive 53 years, leaving a legacy of reliability and commitment.

Beyond his professional achievements, Robert possessed a vibrant passion for life. An avid equestrian, he found immense joy in showing horses and the thrill of owning racehorses. His love for classic automobiles was equally profound, with a particular fondness for hot rods, ranging from a sleek 1957 Chevy to a cherished 1932 Ford. These hobbies were not just pastimes but reflections of his zest for adventure and appreciation for craftsmanship.

Robert was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Connie Vickers, in 2017; his parents, Jack and Dorthy Vickers; his brothers, Donnie and Clinton Vickers; his sister-in-law, Freda Vickers; and his nephew, Randy Vickers.

He leaves behind a loving family to cherish his memory, including his devoted son, Steven Vickers of Olathe, Kansas; his daughter, Traci Vickers (Brian) of Louisiana; and his sisters-in-law, Rita Hoch (Scott) of Bonner Springs, Kansas, and Judy Vickers (John) of Olathe, Kansas. Robert will also be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews: Ian Schaben (Christine) of Lake Winnebago, Missouri, Brandon Hoch (Danielle) of Shawnee, Kansas, Brenna Stark (Tanner) of Bonner Springs, Kansas, Sonya Clements (Doug) of Bonner Springs, Kansas, Sheryl Vickers of Prairie Village, Kansas, and Doug Vickers of Olathe, Kansas. He is also survived by numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom will miss his presence and enduring spirit.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during a visitation from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home. Funeral services will immediately follow at 11:30 AM, also at the funeral home. Private Interment will take place at Bonner Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association or for Parkinson's Research.
