EDITH SMITH Obituary

Edith Payne Smith, 84, Liberty, Mo., passed away December 30, 2011. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, at Second Baptist Church, Liberty. Burial will follow at Glenridge Cemetery, Liberty. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, at Church-Archer- Pasley Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association. Mrs. Smith was born April 21, 1927, in Liberty to John Houstin and Rosa (Howard) Payne. She was a 1945 graduate of Liberty High School and a 1949 graduate of William Jewell College. On Dec. 25, 1953, she married George Philip Smith. Edith was a lifelong member of Second Baptist Church and also a member of DAR. She enjoyed writing poetry, knitting and crocheting. She made over 1000 caps for the Salvation Army. Edith was preceded in death by her parents and eight siblings. Survivors include her husband, George Philip Smith; three sons, David Payne Smith and wife Suzanne, Easton, Md., Houstin G. Smith, Lee's Summit, Mo., and Stuart S. Smith, Liberty, and three grandchildren, Sean Philip Smith, Andrew William Smith and Ashlee Smith.
