GEORGE SNYDER Obituary

Rev. George Baird Snyder, DD. passed from this life to the next on January 27, 2010, at Brandon Woods Skilled Nursing Facility in Lawrence, KS. He was born in Washington, IA on May 16, 1913, the first of three children, to Ward K. Snyder and Margaret Baird Snyder. George graduated from high school in Spencer, IA, and married Ottist (Leah) Bowman in January 1936. He managed grocery stores for Council Oak, and A&P in Iowa and Minnesota for most of his early adult life. At the age of 37, George answered the call to the ministry of the Gospel. He attended Central Baptist Seminary in Kansas City, KS, and pastored numerous American Baptist churches in Kansas until retiring from full-time ministry in 1981. After retirement, he made many friends at Villa Medici and Overland Park Place in Overland Park, KS, and Brandon Woods in Lawrence, KS. George was preceded in death by his wife, Leah, sister Jane Kunz of Spencer IA, and his brother, Robert K. Snyder of Naples, FL. He is survived by his three children: Jan Willey of Lawrence, KS, George B. Snyder Jr. of Lake Quivira, KS, and Thomas W. Snyder of Overland Park, KS. George is also survived by five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one beautiful Christmas cantata for which he wrote the words and music: "The Promise of Love". The memorial service will be held at Overland Park Place, 6555 W. 75th St., Overland Park, KS, at 6:15 p.m. on Saturday, February 6. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the nonprofit organization: The Foundation for Hospice Care, Inc., 3715 SW 29th St., Suite 100, Topeka KS, 66614, 1-800-396-7778.

Tom and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Your dad's passing is another reminder to us all how fleeting this life is and that the reward for a life lived through Christ is truly on the other side. What a reunion that will be, Tommmy!! Blessing to you and your family. Your dad was special to so many people. Nancy Young Snyder, First Baptist Church, Osawatomie KS

I am saddened to hear of Rev. Snyder's passing. It certainly brings back many memories as a neighbor back in the 60's there in Osawatomie, KS. The youngest sibling, Tom, and I were school chums all the way through high school and were the terror of the
' hood '.......always finding ways to be creatively ornery. The Baptist Church building was NOT off limits, by the way ( confession time ).
Even so, Rev. Snyder frequently included me as part of their family knowing I was a METHODIST infidel heathen and could potentially steer their innocent, naive youngest down the path towards the fire and brimstone at any time ! I've lost track of Tom and his family over the years....maybe this will be God's way to have us re-connect....who knows ??

Reverend Snyder has had a most important and wonderful influence in our lives from ministering in our church as children, to joining us in marriage, to the kindest words when Mother passed. What a kind man. Personally, I feel a sad and tremendous loss, but his ultimate reward is here at last. God's blessings to all his family and thank you for sharing such a gentle and humble soul. Sincerely, Philip and Joy Cragg and Sons

Donna and I were sad to hear of the passing of Rev. Snyder. We still remember him from the days at Judson Baptist were he ministered. He and Leah were close friends to Donna's folks and shared many good time with them. Our condolences to his remaining family.
