IVAN EARNEST DULL

Ivan E. Dull, 87, Lee's Summit, MO passed away peacefully at home, July 5, 2011. Visitation at 10 AM July 8 followed by funeral services at 11 AM at St. Mark's Catholic Church, Independence, MO. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to St. Luke's Hospice or the American Heart Association. Ivan was born September 2, 1923 in Cherokee, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents Emery and Rose Dull and his brothers Burton, Glen, Paul and Max. Ivan had a BS in Electrical Engineering from Iowa State University where he was a member of the Catholic fraternity Phi Kappa. He served in the Navy during WWII. After being discharged, he initially pursued an electrical engineering career before finding his passion in insurance at Farm Bureau Insurance Company. In 1962 he joined Life of Mid America Insurance Co. moving his family to Dubuque, IA and served as the company's COO. In 1982 he became Director of the Federal Crop Insurance for the United States and he and Lois relocated to Kansas City. He retired in 1986 and has resided in Lee's Summit. Ivan was a devoted community leader and active in the United Way, the Boy Scouts of America, Junior Achievement, Commander of the American Legion, Rotary and served on numerous Catholic School Boards. In retirement he was active in the Senior Core of Retired Executives (SCORE) and served on the board of Park Lane Hospital. Ivan is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Lois, who lovingly cared for him through his final days at home. He is survived by his 6 children, Dennis (Paula), Patrick (Robin), Karen Howse (Karl), Tim (Heather), Laura Nelson (Patrick), and Beth Nichols (Ken). 10 grandchildren: Ivan, Jacob, Katie, Alexandra, Will, Ned, Sam, Dana, Caroline, and Luke. He will be lovingly remembered for his positive attitude, his firm but loving guidance, the sparkle in his eye, and his love of life. May he rest in Peace.
