James Galbraith Obituary

James Warren Galbraith, 90, of Carthage, MO, died at 5:45 p.m. Friday, May 23, 2003, at his residence. Mr. Galbraith was born on March 9, 1913 in Carthage, MO, to Karr Galbraith and Maude (Ballard) Galbraith. He formerly managed the Cook Paints, Columbia and Joplin, MO, retired as the founding CEO of G&W Distributors Wallpaper Manufacturing, Oklahoma City, OK. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, serving in the Philippines. He graduated in 1934 from the University of Arkansas with a business degree. Mr. Galbraith was a member of the Joplin Elks Club, Masonic Lodge #345 AF&AM, Joplin Scottish Rite, Abou Ben Adhem, Springfield, MO, Spiva Art Center, Joplin, Humane Society, Slobbergut Football Team, Carthage High School Band. He was the leader and drummer of the Foster Whitton Rhythm Aces that played for the School dances. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and loved the outdoors. Music will be provided by Milford Whedel, Jim Thompson, Chuck Wright, Valorie and Richard E. O'Brien and Jan Galbraith. Selection of music "Any Time," "Roll the Rock Away," by Melford Whedel, "Daddy's Hands," "I Believe," by Jan Galbraith, "Maggie," and "Come Morning" by Jim Thompson. Service time will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at the Ulmer Funeral Home Chapel, Carthage. Rev. Don Marshall and Rev. Robert Davis officiating. Burial will be at Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 12noon-1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to Cayuga Mission Church, Grove, OK or Oaks Mission Indian School, Oaks, OK. Pallbearers: Lynn Seaton, Harley Burns, Tommy Dunnaway, Claude Burns, Tim Hill, Bob H. Galbraith, Gregg Galbraith. Honorary Pallbearers: Bill Knight, Earl Biesner, Johnny Colson, James Burns Sr., Lyle Galbraith. (Arrangements: Ulmer Funeral Home (417) 358-2222)
