Hello Gerner Family:

So sorry to hear about Jim. Each year when I volunteered with Christmas Bureau I loved working with the wonderful Gerner clan. I will be unable to attend the services as I have family visiting from Mexico.

My sympathy to all of you. (From Mrs. Santa Claus)

Jim was such an inspiration in the Personal Care Department, and a much valued volunteer and board member who devoted many hours for the benefit of others at the Christmas Bureau.
A gentle soul who contributed numerous ideas, advice and outreach during his years of serving our organization.

He included his whole family in his mission to help other families during the holidays. His smiling presence at the Holiday Shop
will be greatly missed.
Condolences to his family members.

It has been an honor to call Jim Gerner a friend.
As one of the Cody Kids, (a group of kids that grew up on Cody Street in the 1960's), it was the Gerner's house that was always a safe haven. The door was always open and Marj and Jim always had time to talk and offer a snack. There was a point in my life that I was growing so fast, that I outgrew my shoes about every other month. Jim was the recipient of my shoes as I grew into his shoe size. He always teased me about missing my hand-me-down shoes, when my feet continued to get larger.
Jim was kind and understanding and truly wanted to talk with you. There are some people that ask how you are doing and hope that you say fine so that the conversation can go on. For Jim, there is no better conversation than to really find out how you are doing. His interest and caring poured from his soul and one couldn't help but feel the genuine love that he gave so freely.

He had a wonderful experiences throughout his life and spent so much of it with friends and family. He maximized his time here and I can't imagine that he left much on a things-to-do list. I am terribly sad that I will be out of town for the celebration of life. I would have cherished the opportunity to be part of the celebration and to be with the Cody Kids as part of the reunion to honor our friend.
Never turn to a sports figure, a politician or an actor to be a role model. Turn your sights to Jim Gerner. The world would be a better place for all, if we strived to be more like him.
Love to all,
Gregg Ahnemann
