James Martin Hall III

Salina, Kansas - James Martin Hall III, 88, of Salina, died on December 27, 2022 surrounded by family. James, the son of James Martin Hall II & Alice Dewitt Hall, was born December 8, 1934 in Great Bend, Kansas. James graduated from Salina High School in 1953. He was involved in school musicals, track, wrestling, archery and was the co-captain and quarterback of the Salina High football team. He attended Kansas State University where he was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. On June 1st, 1957 James married his high school sweetheart Margaret Mary Slaughter at First Presbyterian Church, Salina. He graduated from Kansas State University in 1958 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. James began his engineering career as Chief Mechanical Engineer.
His career and community affiliations included: Wilson & Company Engineers & Architects, Salina, KS, 27 years and an award-winning Solar Energy Design. Burns & McDonnell, Kansas City, 10 years. Energy Masters, Kansas City, 5 years. Kansas Engineering Society, Past President Smokey Valley Chapter. ASHRAE, Past Director Kansas Chapter. Salina Planning Commission. Leawood Planning Commission. Rotary Club, 60 year member and 2 time Paul Harris Fellow recipient. First Presbyterian Church, Salina 60 year member, Choir, Deacon, Session & Trustee. Salina Library Board Trustee, Treasurer & President. YMCA coached and started 1st youth soccer program. Salina Central Homework Mentor and Meals on Wheels volunteer. Member Grainman's Lake hunting and fishing club. Member Salina Country Club where he enjoyed golf and many of his meals in recent years. He enjoyed the SCC staff who he thought of as family. James was a super Fan to his KSU Wildcats, KC Chiefs, KC Royals & Salina Mustangs. But these were second to cheering for and attending his children's and grandchildren's events! James loved and was so proud of his growing family.
James was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years Margaret, his sister Mary Alice Hall and his parents.
Surviving are his son James (Jamie) Hall and wife, Brigid, of Salina; his daughter Mary Beth Simpson and husband, Grover, of Kansas City; his son Kelly Hall and wife, Lori, of Salina; his son Andy Hall and wife, Sasha Earle, of Chicago, IL; eight grandchildren, Quint Hall, John Hall, Madeline Simpson Allen & Andrew Allen, Ross & Paige Simpson, Hank & Mary Simpson, Savannah Hall Taillon & Brad Taillon, Wyatt Hall, Finn Hall and Louise Hall; four great grandchildren, Bradley, Margaret, & Beau Allen and Evelyn Taillon. And a host of extended family, dear friends, neighbors, hunting, fishing & golfing buddies and his special caregivers. We think James' greatest achievement was being a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, grandpa and great grandpa. Hey cowboy, We love you and we will miss you.

A Memorial Service will be held 9:30 A.M., Saturday, January 14, 2023, at First Presbyterian Church Salina, Kansas. Reception in Blair Hall, following the service (lower level of church).
The Family will have a Private Family Burial.
