James Trotter Obituary

Dr. James B. Trotter
September 5, 2021
Overland Park, Kansas - Dr. James Bruce Trotter passed away on September 5th 2021. Jim was a loyal husband of 47 years to Sandra Ensley, father to David and Leslee Trotter and devoted bah pa to Johnathan Trotter. Jim was the son of James and Betty Trotter, brother to Jay, Lee, and Mark Trotter and a beloved uncle to many.
Jim was a dentist in Overland Park for 40 years, a clinical instructor at UMKC and a member of the Overland Park Church of Christ. He served as an elder, worship leader and spiritual director from 1995 until the day of his passing. He was willing and devoted, giving an hour in prayer every morning to the Lord in solitude. He meditated constantly and reached a depth in his faith that many admire today.
He gave himself to mission work in Costa Rica, Guyana, Tanzania, and Thailand. He sang with his son, David for the Harding Acapella Choir in Europe for four weeks fulfilling his perpetual love of music. His passion for music led him to partake in multiple singing groups where he went on to produce a culmination of records. He was one the co-founders of Christian Family Services & Adoptive Care Agencies. As adoption was dear to his heart.
Traveling was another one of his passions. He was fortunate to visit a multitude of states and countries and especially loved National Parks and being one with nature and the Lord.
Colorado was like his second home, as he spent eleven of his formative years in Denver. Jim made over 40 trips back to the mountains in his lifetime, the elevation of the mighty Rockies never stopped calling his name.
Jim was a man of integrity and kindness, he absolutely loved people. His last months were spent sitting by an outdoor fireplace at his home, talking and singing with family and friends. He loved the Church, his family, and life. His spirit will forever guide us upward.
Because of Jim's great compassion, he believed in helping provide food and shelter for those in need. He found the perfect ministry in Barefoot Mission which is a home for homeless teens in Wyandotte County and would encourage you to contribute and be involved in his memory. www.BarefootMission.com
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 12th at 4 pm at the Overland Park Church of Christ, 13400 W. 119th Street, Overland Park, KS.

Dr Jim was an awesome gentleman of many talents which he readily shared with all. We sang together many times in many venues. His loving, tender care of all will be remembered and his wonderful deep bass voice. Ruby Morgan

Jim and I taught together in TEAM 3 at UMKC School of Dentistry. He was an outstanding educator and communicated well with the students. He was not only a great teacher, but also an ideal example of an ethical and caring dentist. He was respected by students, faculty, and staff. Jim was always smiling and positive. I miss him.

Sandy, we loved Jim like so man others and were terribly saddened to hear of his passing. We wish we could be there in OP today to celebrate his life. Hal's mouth is certainly happier because of Jim. We love you and are praying for your family today.

As a practicing periodontist in the Johnson county area, I had the privilege of working with Jim in caring for his patients. He was dearly loved by those that I helped to treat and his skills in dentistry were impeccable. It was a true honor for me to know Jim as a friend and to assist in caring for his patients. He will be surely missed by all who knew him.

I am so thankful for the time I spent practicing under Jim Trotter. He was truly a great man who exemplifies Jesus Christ in his humble service to others. In the 12 years I was working for him I never saw a temper or unkind word against anyone. My prayers to all his family who will miss him deeply.
