Jerry Green Obituary

Jerry H. Green, 77, passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2007. Private family services. A public memorial service will be held at the Plaza III, on the Country Club Plaza on Friday, August 17, from 5 to 7 p.m. Jerry was born June 10, 1930, to Howard Jay "Pi" and Selma (Stein) Green. A graduate of Yale University in 1952, he married Elizabeth (Betsy) on July 18, 1981. Jerry served as a Lt. in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1955. Upon the death of his father in 1955, he assumed Presidency of Union Chevrolet from 1955 to 1969. He was President and CEO of Union Securities from 1969 to present; Chairman of Union Bank, Kansas City, MO, from 1976 to 2000; Chairman of Budget Rent-A-Car, MO, from 1961 to present; Co-Owner of the Playboy Club in Miami, FL from 1961 to 1964; President of Pembroke Bancshares, Kansas City from 1983 to 2000; Chairman of Union Broadcasting, Inc. (KCTE-AM, WHB-AM, KZPL-FM and KCXM-FM from 1998 to 2007 when he was forced to retire due to his declining health. Jerry was co-owner with his wife Betsy of Green Leigh Farm, Stillwell, KS, that specializes in competition show jumpers and hunters. He was a member of the Kansas City Club, University Club, Oakwood Country Club, Palm Beach Polo and Country Club and International Polo Club of Palm Beach. An Avid car collector, he owned Ferrari's, Aston Martins, Porches, Lotus and Lamborghini's, but considered a Bentley or Rolls Royce too ostentatious for Kansas City. A man of the people, he was equally at home with Royalty (having had the pleasure of meeting HRH Diana, Princess of Wales, in 1984), presidents or the man on the street. Remarkable raconteur, he entertained many a party with his tales of misdeeds and daring, all of which were true. Jerry was truly devoted to his dogs and cats, most of whom were strays. No one loved life more than Jerry Green. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Animal Haven, Pets for Life or Wayside Waifs. Jerry is survived by his wife Betsy, of the home and a son and daughter-inlaw: Justin and Emi, of Kansas City, MO. Online guest book available at the website www.louismemorialchapel.com. Dear Betsy
I had heard that Jerry had a stroke, sorry to hear of his passing. Jerry taught me a lot about business. I remember he was always scared of dying at 55 like his dad, well he survived him 22 years, I am sure a lot of that extra living was because of you. You taking care of him, extended his life and love of life itself.
It been a long time, but if you need any help with anything, let us know. You and Jerry will be in our prayers.

Jerry's autobiography is a must-read. Heaven has gained a one-of-a-kind individual who is probably advising St. Peter on how to run the place and wondering if he can put in a bid for the pearly gates. My condolences to Betsy and their family, including Jerry's "adopted son" Chad Boeger. May we all enjoy life as much as Jerry did.

I am deeply saddened by your loss. You have been in my thoughts low these many years. Jerry's wit, kindness, and ability to make all people feel at ease and welcome during one of his famous parties is something I will always remember. There are no words nor cliches that will ease the pain. The world feels a little colder today without him, regardless of the temperature. Love, your old friend Pam

I returned from Korea in 1954 and was assigned to the 326th. Fighter-Interceptor Squadron at Grandview AFB. 2nd Lt. Jerry H Green was our Personnel officer. I remember him as a true Officer and Gentleman. I have kept track of him down through the years and am truly sorry at his passing.
