What a incredible soul full of grace and generosity. The patients at KCH benefited greatly by Joy's time and compassion. I recall a story from a recipient of Joy's volunteer service. A caregiver shared that on Joy's very first respite visit, he surprised himself with breaking down and screaming in his car before he had even left the driveway. He was so exhausted and needed that time away, but had not even realized until that moment. The emotional and physical break by getting out each week while Joy stayed with his wife, helped him manage the rest of the 24/7 role he found himself in. I still share this exact story with other hospice volunteers as it highlights the importance of this break that volunteer's can offer, and the need for reliability and consistency. Joy was this bright light in many caregivers and patient's lives in her 20 years with Kansas City Hospice. Rest in peace Joy. You have served well.

May she be remembered forever! As a geeky kid at Raytown Jr and then at Raytown South, her library was such a refuge. Always friendly and thoughtful, every library needs a librarian like Mrs. Hays.
