Kenneth McFarland Obituary

Kenneth (Jud) Edward McFarland

October 17, 1936 - June 28, 2024

Kansas City, Missouri - Kenneth (Jud) McFarland passed away peacefully in his home on Friday June 28th 2024, at the age of 87, surrounded by his family.

Jud was born October 17th 1936, in Parkville Mo. to Eual & Hazel McFarland. Jud attended Parkville High School, in 1955 he served a three year term in the United States Airforce. Jud was married to Maryann Gravino for 17 years and they had three children together. He became a Sheet Metal Apprentice for the Local 2 Union at age of 21 and retired as a Business Agent with over 40 years of service.

Jud was a very kind hearted and generous man. If you knew him, you loved him. There wasn't anything you could not ask him to do. He loved his family and friends and was always willing to lend a helping hand and wanted to help those who were less fortunate.

Jud was a man of speed! His first love of speed was driving modified race cars, and building race cars & engines, which became a life long hobby of his and making life long friends within the Kansas City community.

For more speed, Jud & son Kenny adventured onto jumping out of airplanes at the Kansas City Sky Diving Club in Lexington Missouri. From there, they both decided they wanted to fly airplanes and both earned their private pilots license together.

If that was not enough speed, he found another love of speed in snow skiing. Jud loved to take off even on his own when he would learn Colorado received a ton of snow. He was even known to have played hooky a time or two from work, just to fly down the mountain!

He loved traveling with friends to Laferia, Texas for many years visiting their beloved Kansas City friends. Often it would include crossing the border into Mexico!

Jud was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Lois (Margie) Valenzuela, Edger McFarland, Linda McFarland and Charlie McFarland.

He is survived by his children; John McFarland, Kenny McFarland, Teressa Quigley and Son-in-law-John Quigley. Grandchildren Ian Quigley (Samantha), John Viti (Jillian), Marisa McFarland Johnson (Tyler), Jacqueline Quigley, Alec McFarland, Michael Quigley, sister Pollie Soetaert and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to Crossroads Hospice Service, Samantha Lacombe & Lakisha Matthews who were all special caretakers! With their love and support we were able to care for dad at home!

I'm so sorry to hear about Jud. I lived next to him on Benton Blvd for 9 years. Jud was the sweetest, kindest man I knew. We would visit on my porch frequently and he always helped me around my house or with my truck when things went wrong. So much joy and so many stories he would share. I've missed him dearly when I moved 2.5 years ago. I had no idea he passed, but I've prayed for him so often knowing he was not well. My condolences for your families loss and may you find comfort in your memories. Stacy Casler

Can't say enough about this great guy! He live life to the fullest. We met Judd through his son in law John who is a country music singer and this family is like our own. We spent many an hour in TEXAS at the music halls . Jud was always happy loved his families and we enjoyed all the good times with this sweet man. I hope to attend the celebration of life which is exactly what it is. Sadness yes but more happy loving memories are deserved
