Marilynn Patterson Obituary

Marilynn Wilson Patterson, 71, of Leawood, Kansas, passed away on Friday, February 2, 2007, after a courageous battle with cancer. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, February 7, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 14201 Nall, Leawood, Kan. Visitation will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 6, at the Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa, Kan. A rosary will be said at 6 p.m. The daughter of Lloyd and Vera (Palmer) Wilson of Kansas City, Kan., Marilynn, the sixth of eight children, was born on September 17, 1935. She graduated from Wyandotte High School and attended Kansas State University. It was at K-State that she met her best friend and husband of 50 years, Don Patterson. Marilynn was the consummate mother and homemaker, often identifying her children as the most notable accomplishments of her life. Her children and grandchildren recognized her as a great teacher of life-lessons; a faithful cheerleader; an outstanding cook (noted for her homemade goodies and the ability to produce a gourmet dinner at a moment's notice); and a most generous-hearted woman. Marilynn loved gardening, lilacs in bloom, family beach vacations, and watching a good thunderstorm on the back porch with her beloved dog, Max. Her daughters and sons-in-law respected her immensely for her unwavering love and support. Marilynn was an avid antique collector and owned/operated Lloyd's Antiques for nearly 20 years. She was also an active member of the Rotary Club 13 Auxiliary. Marilynn is survived by her husband, Don Patterson, as well as her six children and their spouses: Lesa and Paul Clark of Tulsa, Okla.; Don Jr. and Candace Patterson of Olathe; Megan and Rod Randel of Lenexa; Tom and Stephanie Patterson of Lakeland, Fla.; Sam and Lori Patterson of Leawood; and Rachel Gast of Prairie Village. Her pride and joy of many years were her grandchildren: Meredith and Andrew Clark; Elisheva, Sarah and Rebekah Patterson; Amelia and Tim Randel; Ben and Matthew Patterson; Isaac and Abigail Patterson; and Annie Gast. Marilynn is also survived by one sister, Malinda Newton, and three brothers, Gilbert, Emerson, and David Wilson. The family suggests donations to the Rotary Youth Camp at 1219 Wyandotte, Kansas City, MO 64105-1621. Online condolences may be expressed at the website www.porterfuneralhome.com. Arrangements: Porter Funeral Homes & Crematory, 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa, Kan., (913) 438-6444.

Rachel, Annie and family,
We are so very sorry in the loss of your mother and grandmother. Although we did not have the pleasure of meeting her, it is very obvious what a wonderful mother she was to have raised such a great daughter. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Marilyn was s "Special Angel" to the Bosnian refugees in the 90's. She was a donor to the cause that helped these people immensely. I will miss our talks about KCK and Wyandotte and Ward High Schools and the "old neighborhood".A true gift from God to all of us.
