Michael Donegan Obituary

Michael Donegan
May 2, 2021
Leawood, Kansas - Mike Donegan, 72, passed away unexpectedly on May 2, 2021 at home. Mike, a twin, was born March 29, 1949 to Paul and Louise Donegan. While growing up, Mike enjoyed his brothers, buddies, scouting, and earning his eagle scout. He graduated from St. Pius X in 1967 and graduated from CMSC in 1971. Following his time working at Kelly's Westport Inn, he and Jim Hogan purchased Stroud's South in 1977. In 1983, Mike and his twin brother, Dennis, along with Jim Hogan bought Stroud's Oak Ridge Manor. Through the years, Stroud's has been honored with numerous awards, including the James Beard Award for Excellence and the Zagat Award for Best Restaurant. Because of Mike's many years of hard work and dedication, along with his staff, Stroud's is one of Kansas City's best and favorite restaurants.
Mike married Cindy Duffey, 6/26/84. Mike and Cindy did much entertaining thru the years with their beloved friends and family. Their annual 4th of July party was always a great all-day mega family and friends gathering with the best fireworks display, imaginable.
Mike was the most generous, kind, giving man who loved his family and friends.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents, twin brother Dennis, brother, Tim, Sister-in- law Toni Donegan and many extended family members and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife, Cindy, Sister-in-law Linda Donegan, nephews, Matt, Andy (Katie), Paul Donegan, great niece Reagan and Marietta Oliver, his Aunt who has been more like a sister, as well as many extended family and friends.
A private memorial service will be held, with a visitation open to family and friends at Stroud's North Deck at 12:30pm on May 11th.
In Lieu of flowers, the family ask that contributions be made to Welcome House or Tunnels to Towers.

I was so sorry to hear about Mike. He was one of the best bosses when I used to work at Straud's North as a Hostess LONG time ago. I am so sorry for your loss Cindy. May his memory be eternal.

So sorry to hear of Mike's passing. He was a great guy. I didn't get to see him as often lately, but when I did it always was just like old times. Mike, Dennis, and I met when we were teenagers and worked together as grill boys at Smaks on Chouteau. I hope fond memories of him will help Mike's family through this trying time.

A good friend to many has walked through this door to the next life to join his beloved family and many friends who have preceded him. It is not the end, but a transition. I was privileged to join the Stroud's family (although I grew up going there) in 1979 and remained so for several years. Mike always made me feel as though I was still part of that family whenever I returned to K.C. and visited Strouds. He had a huge heart and loved, and was loved by so many people. He was a unique and very special man that has left an indelible imprint on our hearts and in our lives. My deepest condolences to Cindy and the rest of his family. He is watching over you (with a VO in hand of course). If you feel him, he is there. God Bless.
