Paul Hultman Obituary

Paul A. Hultman, 84, Overland Park, KS, died Friday, December 6, 2002, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 10, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf. Private burial in Johnson County Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Monday, December 9, at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to Colonial Presbyterian Church, 9500 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO 64114 or Animal Haven Animal Shelter, 9800 W. 67th Street, Merriam, KS 66203. Mr. Hultman was born July 3, 1918 in Kewanee, IL, to Herbert and Hulda (Johnson) Hultman. Being the son of a minister, the family lived in many MidWestern towns before settling in Smolan, KS. The family later moved to Essex, IA where Mr. Hultman graduated from Essex High School in 1936. Paul enlisted in the Navy in 1942 where he served as a SeaBee in the South Pacific Theatre during WWII. After returning from duty, he met Dorothy Adkins who became his bride in 1946. He was a member of the Carpenters Local Union #1329. Paul was a member of Masonic Lodge #436. He worked as a locksmith (in the nuclear energy dept.) at Bendix/Allied Signal before retiring in 1985. Paul had a true love for the outdoors, whether he was fishing, gardening or just puttering around. Mr. Hultman was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, in February of this year; brothers, Bill and Stan Hultman; and sisters, Alice Matson, Ester Drevits and Mabel Benzen. Survivors include his children, Kathy Poe, Decatur, IL, Bruce Hultman and his wife, Nancy, Stilwell, KS, Curtis Hultman and his wife, Shelley, Lenexa, KS, Paula Fanning and her husband, Robert, Olathe, KS; his grandchildren, Shelly Law and Russ Poe, Decatur, IL, Patrick, Tracey and Grant Hultman, Lenexa, KS, Sarah Hultman, Stilwell, KS, Stacy, Elizabeth and Christopher Fanning, Olathe, KS; along with his brother, Don Hultman, Seattle, WA and sister-inlaw and brother-in-law, Frances and Bill Shields.
