RAYMOND KELLOGG Obituary

Raymond Reno Kellogg passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family in the early hours of October 20, 2014. Visitation will be Thursday October 23, from 5-7:00 PM at the Porter Funeral Home 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa, KS 66215, with a Memorial Mass at 11:00 AM Friday, October 24, at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church 7023 W. 71 St. Overland Park, KS. His extraordinary kindness and pure enthusiasm for life will be sorely missed by his entire family and a huge network of dear friends. Reno was born on August 1, 1937 in Denver, Colorado to George and Theresa Kellogg. As a young man, he took a strong interest in singing, something that would remain a passion for the entirety of his life. In 1959, Reno married Lois Mitchell and the couple had four children: Tony, Jules, Maria, and Joe. He took a job with Merck & Co. Inc and in 1966, they moved to Merriam, KS. On April 1, 2000, Reno married Roxann Tweed and the couple made a home together in Lenexa, KS. Reno's life was characterized by his incredibly giving nature, warm humor, amazing connection with children and animals, and especially by his love of music. He even appeared with the Kansas City Symphony Chorus for a time. His favorite music to tap along to was jazz but he brought great pleasure to listeners when he applied his golden tenor voice to Italian arias (sung in Italian), Christmas music, and even karaoke. Reno always put the needs of others first and had the incredible ability to make something positive out of even the most trying situation. The world is certainly a brighter, better place for having had him in it. He was preceded in death by his mother and father; brother Danny; brother Billy, and sister-in-law Rosie; and is survived by his loving wife, Roxann; brother John Kellogg of Littleton, CO; children Tony (and wife Maggie) of Brandon, South Dakota; Jules of Fairway, KS, Maria of Overland Park, and Joe (and wife Terri) of Chicago, IL; step children Jennifer Beardslee (and husband Steve) of Leawood, KS; and Marc Tweed of Seattle, WA; grandchildren George, Rose, and Ike Kellogg; Maximo and Charlie Kellogg; Sam, Charlie, and Lila Jane Beardslee; and Henry Tweed. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Alzheimer's Association Heart of America Chapter. I only met Ray a couple of times, but each occasion was memorable. As a new member of Branch Operations at Merck, Ray made me feel welcome and comfortable. A great guy! So glad I had a chance to meet him.

I have so many good and cherished memories of Reno from my first Merck management meeting to the last. We enjoyed many good laughs as well as more serious times throughout the years. He was a generous and loving person and even though we hadn't seen each other in many years he has and always will remain dear to my heart. My sincere condolences to Roxann and his family.

I met Reno when I was 20 & worked at Merck. We've been best friends for 48 years. I babysat his kids & the girls babysat mine. He sang at our wedding & at my dad's funeral & was always there for me, in happy times & sad. The one thing he told me that will always stay with me was "always walk with your head held high & look them in the eye". Reno was one of the happiest & kindest people I've ever known & dear Reno, you will be so missed but I know you're singing with the angels in that incredible tenor voice. I'm so sorry I couldn't be at the funeral but was there in my heart. To his wonderful family, I love you all & you're always in my prayers

Dear Roxanne
I was very saddened to hear of Ray's passing. He was a fine manager and valued friend for 50 years. I first met Ray in the mid 60's when I joined the branch operation in the home office. In the early 70's Ray and I were a team helping branches install new warehouse equipment and assisting branches move from old locations to new buildings. We remained close thereafter during annual meetings of managers and visits to his branch. As for Myrtle Beach during our retirement years, Ray was always at the center of the fun during those wonderful weeks. He was one of a kind.

Roxanne and the rest of the Kellogg family, our deepest sympathy. My memories of Ray are very fond, working together in Denver, playing cards at each others houses, Ray singing at our wedding, then the years when we all met in Myrtle Beach to play golf and of course help Ray count his strokes. May you all always keep a smile in your hearts for a man who had a huge heart!

Tony & Family,

MaDora and I were so sorry to here about Reno. He really was a great man and a dear friend to us. Among the countless things he sang, we'll always remember hearing him sing "I Did It My Way" at karaoke in the Dallas West End when a big group of us went out to party back in the 90's. That was so much fun, and of course, he brought the house down with that one. He will be missed, and please know your family is in our prayers.

May the prayers of friends give you strength at this difficult time. Reno sung at my mother's funeral and at our daughter's wedding. He left the golf course in Myrtle Beach, drove to Philadelphia to rehearse with the musicians and learn "Notre Dame Our Mother". And, at the reception he sang "God Bless America". His voice was a gift to all of us.
I know my Phil was there to walk him into the loving arms of Jesus.

Maria, I will always cherish the memory of singing "Sentimental Journey" a karaoke night many years ago. My first and last time doing it and I was scared out of my wits but somehow Reno made it fun. My prayers are with all of you.
