ROBERT S. DEMASTERS Jr.

Robert S. DeMasters, Jr., 67, son of the late Robert S. DeMasters, Sr. and Evelyn Linstrom DeMasters, and son-in-law of the late Earl and Elizabeth Johnson, died of cancer on Monday, February 29, 2016. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Dr. Jan DeMasters, his only daughter, Sarah DeMasters, his siblings Carol Vespa, Julia Schnieders, Patti Downey of Liberty, MO, and their families. A 1966 graduate of Liberty High School, he graduated from Oklahoma State University with a bachelor's degree in Aviation Science in 1970. After graduation he joined the Navy, serving as an Officer and Naval Aviator. In 1977 he returned to civilian life as a pilot for Sverdrup Corporation, an architectural firm in St. Louis, MO. He met the love of his life, Jan, in December of 1977, and they were married in August of 1978. Robert was promoted to Chief Pilot and Aviation Director that same year, and retired from flying in 2008. He was a devoted husband and father. His wife and daughter were at his side throughout his battle with cancer and at his bedside as he passed away peacefully. Robert requested cremation and a private service. He said that the best way for his friends and loved ones to honor him would be through a donation of time or resources to a cancer charity, hospice organization, or local animal shelter.
