ROBERT THOMPSON Obituary

Robert Everett Thompson, 57, beloved son of mother Sandra and step-father Norman Cass, Orlando, Fla., and proud father of Shyanne Nicole Thompson, O'Fallon, Mo., was called home by the Lord December 9, 2014, dying peacefully in his sleep in Warsaw, Mo., where he was visiting a close friend. Rob was preceded in death by brother, Ric and father, Jim Thompson of Kansas City, Mo. Rob was born Jan. 9, 1957, in Mt. Ayr, Iowa. He graduated from Oak Park High School in 1975. He worked Construction in Texas and Tree Service in Kentucky. He was a loving, caring man with a great sense of humor. He leaves behind many cherished friends. In his younger years, Rob had a passion for baseball and playing guitar with his brother, Ric and their friends. There were many jam sessions held in the garage of the family home in Kansas City. Make joyful music in Heaven, Son. You are in God's Hands. We love you.

Rob, there is a light you left behind in the shadows when you departed this world. Shadow cannot exist without light. I find your light every time I pick up a guitar or write lyrics or poems. The following poem was written for you and a host of others I loved so much who passed away in December. Your light lives on in all of us that you had to leave behind in your passing. I will carry it with me wherever I may go. Miss you, old friend.

Still #2

Let me not be judged
By this last quarter mile
But upon all the roads
In between,
The places we traveled,
The smiles we gathered,
Candelight dinners,
A laugh or two
In a crowded bar.
When the music
Danced in our eyes
And in our heads,
The days we survived
On a wing and a prayer
But found happiness
In each given moment,
And upon those blessed years
When we thrived,
When we blossomed
Under the sun,
And dreamed
Under the stars and moon.

I always thought we would have the opportunity to play guitars and sing again together, God had other plans unfortunately, I just know that you and Ric are playing together again up there and making beautiful music. So very long ago, we all made some great music together...it made such a huge difference to me as we were growing up, and I know it did for you and Ric too...I love you, Rob, and I will miss you much too much, my dear friend. Give Ric a hug for me too!
