Ryan Ried Obituary

Ryan Dean Ried died peacefully on Saturday November 30, 2019 in Alamo, CA at the age of 46. Ryan is survived by his wife Melinda (Lilley) Ried and son Hayden; parents Dr. Harold and Linda West of Independence, MO; Raye and Yvonne Ried of Grain Valley; brothers Devon (Kim) Ried of Lee's Summit, MO and Hal West III of Atlanta, GA.; sisters Billie (Eric) Hernandez and Crystal (Neal) Seyfert of Grain Valley, MO; multiple nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Ryan was equally loved and cherished by Melinda's family. He was never thought of as an "in-law". He always played a very valued role as a son, brother, uncle, and nephew. He leaves behind an imprint that will be impossible to forget. He is preceded in death by his sister Tonya West of Birmingham, AL. Ryan was born on October 14 th , 1973 in Independence, MO. He graduated from Blue Springs High School in 1992 and later from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a degree in General Studies in 1996. Ryan was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity while attending college in Columbia MO. He married Melinda in 2002 after meeting while working at Oracle in Redwood Shores, CA. They welcomed their son Hayden in 2007. Ryan and Melinda have lived in several locations including Boston, MA, Austin, TX, Chicago, IL, and most recently in Alamo, CA. Ryan was an extremely driven individual in his personal and work life. He was a multi-sport athlete playing football, baseball, and basketball growing up. He was awarded All-State honors in football in 1992 while attending Blue Springs High School. His athletic abilities earned him a scholarship at Pittsburgh State (KS) to play football but eventually he found his way to Columbia MO where he finished his degree. After graduation Ryan moved to St. Louis to start his career in sales. His passion to succeed and leadership skills allowed him to rise through the ranks and achieve a tremendous amount of professional success. While Ryan was a presence to be reckoned with in his professional life, he had an even greater love and dedication for his family. He was the quintessential family man and father. Nothing gave him greater joy than the time he was able to spend with his son Hayden. Their fishing trips will always be remembered as great father son adventures. He enjoyed teaching Hayden how to drive a golf cart, possibly too fast! One of Ryan's greatest passions was football. There is no way he would ever miss watching a Chief's game, all the while on the phone with his family in Kansas City ranting and cheering. Ryan was an incredibly special person and was loved by many. There is nothing that Ryan wouldn't do for his family and friends. He was larger than life and lived his short time to the fullest. Two Celebrations of Life are planned. December 14 th from 1-4 at his home in Alamo (125 La Sonoma Way). December 21 st 2019 at the Hartman Conference Center from 3-5 p.m. (19677 East Jackson Drive, Independence, MO 64057). All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ryan's life. In lieu of flowers, you can send donations to www.coreacademy.net which is a school that is very special to Ryan and his family.

I couldn´t ask for a better cousin. Kisses on top of my head and being there for me..even when you were busy. You were the keeper of my secrets. You looked out for me no matter what. I´m blessed to have had you in my life and now my heart. Love and miss you always.

I am so very sorry to be so late in posting my sincere sympathy. I do not know how I missed this, especially as I tried to touch base with Ryan pretty regularly. Despite my infrequent contact, I considered Ryan a dear friend - so generous of spirit and always ready to smile and enjoy a few minutes with friends. He was a great colleague, role model and friend. I am at a loss to realize he is gone, and my heart goes out to his family. The world is a little less bright without Ryan in it.

Ryan was the coolest brother in law a person could ask for. I'll keep so many happy memories of visiting he and my sister Melinda in all of the fun places they lived from their loft in San Francisco, to Newton Massachusetts, to Alamo CA which I loved because it was just a few hours drive to visit. Ryan played a big role in my kid's lives as a friend, role model and mentor. His contributions to our lives will stay with us forevever. We love you Ryan Ried.

Ryan was the big brother I never had and, at times, never wanted. ;) He was more than a colleague. He was a mentor, a confidant, a friend... someone I truly cared for. I will always remember him for his drive, compassion, and relentless pursuit of success. I will miss you greatly. RIP my friend.

I worked with Ryan. I was part of the UK team for Birst when he was working there and he was VP of sales. We had a lot of fun on his trips to London. I shall always remember trying to explain Rhyming Cockney Slang to him. He was a good man. My condolences to his family and friends.

Heartbreaking to hear this news and my most sincere condolences to Melinda, Hayden, Dr. Harold, Devon and all of Ryan's family. Lots of great memories of Ryan. At Blue Springs Ryan was a stellar athlete. Ryan had no problem hanging with the older kids in my class of 91. He spoke softly but you knew he carried a big stick both on the field and with his loyalty in friendship. At Mizzou it was a blast being a fraternity brother and roommate of Ryan's. College memories would not have been the same without him 7 on 7 football, Harpo's, George's, and afterhours at Foxfire. He set me up on my first blind date. At the same time he was the first guy I've ever known that was counting calories and eating low-fat all the way back in 1995. He was ahead of his time. I remember how excited he was when he first moved out to San Francisco and was living in a loft there on my first visit to him he exuded an I'm all grown up aura and was beaming with stories as we got caught up driving around town. Then, boom, Ryan runs right into a car. He was bummed for all but about two minutes Ryan quickly approached the other driver, exchanged all information, and on we went. He didn't let it get him down. You will be missed my friend but always alive in our memories.

Unfortunately we haven't stayed in touch recently. I truly regret that. From the beautiful description above, sounds like you were still the wonderful man that I knew. I wouldn't expect any less. Thanks for being a great friend, and as you would say back then, I know we don't always act that way sometimes but I love ya best friend!
So true because you're were much more like a brother. Rest peacefully now my friend. I love you!

I'm sorry to hear of Ryan's passing, this is a huge loss for those that knew him. I had the pleasure of working with Ryan during his years in Boston. We spent countless days on the road, in various parts of the country, always returning home with some great/crazy stories. Every road trip left a life-long memory for one reason or another. Ryan was a great guy with a big heart. I'll never forget the time he drilled me with a golf ball - on a driving range. We were coming off a 9 hole match tied with another team. We decided to break the tie by having a chipping contest on the driving range. Ryan was not happy with our respective play, so instead of breaking out his pitching wedge, he broke out his driver and hit he ball as hard as he could - sideways into my right thigh. For a minute, I thought I had been shot. After getting back on my feet, I turned around to see Ryan hugging his driver. His face was beet red, then he blurted out - I'm sorry.... He must of apologized and said he was sorry 30 more times that afternoon. Ryan was a great person, friend, co-worker and family man. He will be greatly missed by those he impacted while he was in Boston. Rest in peace my friend.
