SAMUEL ANCONA Obituary

Samuel J. Ancona, 88, passed away February 8, 2010. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, February 12, at St. Therese Catholic Church, 7207 NW Hwy. 9, Kansas City, MO 64152. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Thursday at Passantino Bros. Funeral Home, 2117 Independence Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64124, where the rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Sam was born September 29, 1921, in Kansas City, MO, to Jack and Giovanna Ancona. He served his country in the United States Navy as a Chief Petty Officer aboard the USS Yancey during WWII. Sam worked hard to make his way up the ladder of life and was very successful. He joined the Teamsters and there he found his true calling – the art of negotiation. His skill in dealing with union issues was recognized at the highest levels and he was selected to serve the International Office. Sam's greatest source of pride was his family and he never let anything come before them. He was always there for his children and grandchildren, whether they needed an extra dollar or a piece of advice. His generosity was legendary. Sam was preceded in death by his wife, Susie Ancona, in 1991; brothers, Joe Ancona and John Ancona; and sisters, Genevieve Gilbert and Rose Sorrentino. He is survived by his children, Jeanine Robinson and husband Tom, Rosemary Ancona Sylvan, Jack Ancona and wife Mary; grandchildren, Anna Sue Fasone, Michal Fasone, Sam Sylvan, Nick Sylvan, Lori Strada, Joe Strada, Susie Ancona; great-grandson, Colton Fasone; sister and brothers-in-law, Rosinae and Tony Campobasso, Charles Gilbert; brothers- in-law and sisters-in-law, Scoots and Lola Scudiero, Anthony and Mary Jane Scudiero, Mary Ann Monteleone; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Pallbearers: Joe Gicinto, Dr. John Campobasso, Duke Nabors, Joe Sorrentino, Jack J. Ancona, Michael Monteleone. Honorary Pallbearers: Del "Dub" Nabors, Chuck Cacioppo Sr., Dick Sandifer. Sam's family would like to thank the staff and residents of Sweet Life of Rosehill, The Atriums, and Odyssey Hospice; and offer a special thank you to a close member of the family Sr. Rita Amarante, and special caregiver Shell. Jeanine, Tom, Roaemary, and Jack,
It was such an honor to care for your dad during the years he lived at The Atriums. He has left us with so many laughs and stories we may not need to repeat. LOL Each and everyone of you were so faithful caring for him and it was great working with each of you. Our staff truly felt like apart of the family.
You are in our thought and prayers.

To the Family of Sam and Susie:
I have many fond memories of Sam and Susie, and the years I worked with Sam in the Teamster Joint Council office. Sam always thought he needed to protect me from some of the "elements". If it looked like I was getting into "dangerous waters" at some of the Christmas parties or events, Sam all of a sudden would be there telling me it was time to go home. Sam always made me laugh. I remember I always thought Susie was very beautiful and had a kind smile and heart. I am sure you have and will miss them both very much. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your families.

Jeanine, Rosemary & Jack

Some of my most cherished childhood memories are of the wonderful times and meals that our families shared together. To my family, both of your parents exemplified the true meaning of friendship. A library has certainly closed with the passing of Mr. Sam, but his charm, wit and generosity will continue to inspire all of us who knew him. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

My deepest heartfelt sympathy to the Ancona family for their loss. I can truly say he was one of the nicest and most generous men I have ever known. He always had that wonderful smile. He had such a soothing personality. It has been such a pleasure to be his friend. Goodbye old friend, rest in peace.

Rosemary, Jeanine, Jack and Family-
I was heartbroken to hear of passing of your father. He was a wonderful man who loved his family. I remember both of your parents with much fondness. Their energy and laughter and enthusiasm for life were contagious! I look back at the moments our families spent together as very happy and fun times, sitting in the downstairs kitchen with the multi-colored kitchen drawers and the girls awesome closest-we always had so much fun getting together. I hope that your memories of lives well-lived will give you comfort in this time of sorrow. In love, sympathy and prayers.

Jack

While I only met your father once, something tells me that he is the one who gave you the wisdom and strength that made you the person you are today. Using that same wisdom and strength, you have been like a father to me at times. But most importantly, you are my friend.

Love
