SAMUEL LEO BALDWIN

Samuel Leo Baldwin, 79, of Spring Hill, passed away April 10, 2012 at his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 14, at Queen of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 22779 Metcalf Ave., Wea, KS 66013. Samuel was born November 24, 1932 in Kansas City, KS, to William Leo and Alice Irene (Fray) Baldwin. He graduated from St. Joseph High School in Shawnee. Samuel served in the US Navy for four years during the Korean conflict. He married Alma Christine Johnson on June 5, 1954 in Herington, KS. Samuel moved to Spring Hill four years ago after living in the Herington and Shawnee areas. He worked as a switchman at Union Station for the KC Terminal Railroad; retiring 25 years ago. Samuel was an active member of Queen of the Holy Rosary, where he served as an usher. He was an avid golfer achieving two holes in one. He was preceded in death by his parents. Samuel is survived by his wife, Alma, of the home; children: Randy and wife Kelly, Merriam; Rick and his wife Cindy, Shawnee; and Andrea and husband Jim Zarda, Spring Hill; and seven grandchildren. The family leaves you with Sam's special Irish Blessing: "May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind always be at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, the rains fall soft upon your fields, and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand."
