Stacy Blatt Obituary

Stacy Blatt
February 8, 1957 - February 25, 2021
Kansas City , Missouri - Stacy Allen Blatt of Kansas City Missouri died February 25, 2021 at Kansas City Hospice House. He had recently turned 64. He was a "miracle baby", born February 8, 1957 in Independence MO to Roger and Elizabeth Blatt, after doctors had told them that Betty would never be able to conceive.
Stacy and his little brother Russell grew up in Independence in a house on Lyn-Del Circle, just off Shady Bend Drive, in a neighborhood jam-packed with other kids. He had many friends there and fun times.
Stacy was super-intelligent, but this intelligence sometimes proved to be a curse. He was bored with school but managed to finish high school, with his share of troubles along the way. After high school, he went to work as a tool and die maker at his father's company Rabco. He was very good at his job but being the boss's son came with its own set of issues.
Stacy had many interests. As a teen he got involved with judo, staying with it until he received a brown belt. During his Rabco days, he helped his best friend Robert start Van Kueren Games, a company that made miniature games. He also was a lifelong fan of punk rock, Rush Limbaugh, MST3K, Weird Al and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. He became an "expert" in all of these. Stacy dealt with anxiety his whole life, and often self-medicated with alcohol and drugs.
Stacy never married nor had children but did have several longtime girlfriends.
Stacy lived at home in his parents' house until his father's sudden death in 1990. He was unprepared to live on his own and the drug and alcohol use worsened. He was arrested in 2000 on a charge of manufacturing methamphetamine. Even though it was his first arrest, mandatory minimum sentencing laws in place at the time put him in prison for 10 years.
While the minimum-security prison was for the most part terrible for him, he did do something there that became one of his happiest memories. He formed a punk rock band called The Criminals with several other inmates. Even talking about the shows and practices with his band brought a sparkle to his eye. It was one of the few times he was able to beat anxiety without substances.
After prison, the anxiety got the best of him again and once again alcohol use became an issue. He really tried but it was difficult to hold a job. He was homeless for a period and was hospitalized after a brutal assault and robbery. It was then he found the Restart program, thru which he received housing and opportunities for job training. He got a job he really liked at Sprint Center on the night shift cleaning up after events. During the day, he went to training to get his CDL to drive big trucks, something he had always wanted to do. He developed relationships within Restart, including special friend Brandy Redell. Life was on the right track for him until 2016 when the esophageal cancer diagnosis first hit.
While he had his struggles, you couldn't ask for a more loyal friend or brother. Once you were loved by Stacy, you were always loved by him. Towards the end, he had a wonderful home health aide with whom he loved discussing God and what waited for him on the other side.
Stacy was preceded in death by his father Roger Blatt and mother Elizabeth "Betty" Blatt (Lewis). Survivors include brother Russ Blatt, sister-in-law Carmen Blatt of Kansas City, nephews Gabriel Blatt of Kansas City, and Chris Arredondo of Olathe, plus his two cats Sid and Rosebud, both of whom have been adopted into great forever homes. Stacy will be cremated and his ashes buried with his mom and dad at Woodlawn Cemetery in Independence. No services are planned at this time due to covid, but we may have a graveside ceremony later in the spring when his ashes are interred. The family requests donations in Stacy's memory to Restart Inc. at https://www.restartinc.org, or 918 East 9th Street, Kansas City MO 64106.

Donovan and I was remembering a memory we had of stace a base the other day. We picked him up and was driving him home after a night of poker, it was really cold that night and our blower motor didn't work in our car, Stacy didn't complain once and thanked us several times just for the fact he could get home. On the way there, there was black ice on the road, the car lost control and we did 3 360s in the middle of the road before finally coming to a stop ( thank God there were no other vehicles out that late at night ), we all were freaked out and we remember him going oh boy in the back seat, then when it was over he laughed and went pheeewww, didn't get mad about any of it, we all thanked God it wasn't worse lol. Got him home in one piece that night and he told us he loved us before he went inside his home. I miss you Stace a base

Stace- my heart breaks to read these things. You and Bill taught me about the Dead Milkmen, Clockwork Orange, The Cramps, Flaming Lips, Dead Kennedys, Ramones... you crazy guys helped me get into my first concert- the Dead Milkmen at the Grand Emporium. I´ll never forget that night, or sitting in the Delorean, or playing pool downstairs screaming any weird and random phrase from movies or songs- and how you literally could name every single one of them!

Your heart was always in the right place. You were crazy as hell, fearless, and beyond fun to be around. We packed a lifetime of adventures into this time on Earth. .. Thank you, Stacy. For every second of your zany, brilliant, hilarious self. Every time I hear `our tunes´ - We´ll be right back in the den at your house, deciding what concerts to go to, and you let me sit in the Delorean AND the Posche! Rest in Peace, Stace. You´re free from all of the burdens this place put upon your spirit.

I did not know Stacy, but this obituary melted my heart. Through my work we have donated to ReStart and it is wonderful that he made the connection with them. Sounds like he was a very loving and kind individual. Thanks so much for sharing this honest, open and loving obituary with all of us.

Stacy was a amazing friend. I knew him for many years and miss him whole heartedly. When i found out that he had cancer my words were, " stace a base, you can beat this, if anyone in this world can beat this its you being the smartest mad scientist I've ever known". Stace a base is my nick name for him, his love of punk rock put a smile on your face to watch him sing along to the songs. Long nights of poker playing and pizza from a near by restaurant, were some of my best memories of him. He was one of the most caring persons i have ever known, when my vehicle was down he let me drive his to work. He looked at me one day and said, " Amanda , I'm going to give you one of the most highest compliments i can ever give someone, you're beautiful, you're smart and you're one of the most punk rock girls I've ever known", we laughed together fora while that night. Stace a base would look at my husband Donovan ( who for all purposes is his non blood nephew) and would say, " you are the luckiest man in the world to be married to her". I miss stacy , i am sadden that lifes busy days got in between us visiting for a bit now and i wasn't able to say goodbye or give my stace a base one last bear hug... Stacy you will be missed!!! By more people than most know of!! You are amazing stace a base, and you were the most "punk rock" man I've ever known!!! I love you and will miss you always!!!

I didn't know your loved one, but was so impressed with the honesty of his obituary. It's important to share mental health struggles to help normalize them. I'm glad he's at peace and was able to find moments of joy in his life even in prison.
