Stephen Foster Obituary

Stephen Francis Foster

September 26, 1951 - April 1, 2024

Dolores Hidalgo, Mexico - Stephen Francis Foster, 72, passed away in his sleep on April 1, 2024 at his adopted home of Dolores Hidalgo, Mexico. Steve was born on September 26, 1951 in Kansas City, Kansas to Harry and Loretta Foster, the third of their eight children.

Steve established lifelong relationships at Saint Peter's Cathedral, Rockhurst High School and KU before beginning a journey that took him from the Midwest to California, the Philippines, Thailand, India and finally Mexico.

Steve always took time to visit. He considered himself as blessed to have chatted with Mother Teresa as with the man on the street and he never forgot a friend. He was proud to be "Uncle Steve" to 23 nieces and nephews, their spouses, and 30 great-nieces and great-nephews. He also treasured his many Foster and DeCoursey cousins.

He is survived by his brothers Jim (Eva), Tom (Barbara) and Mike (Pat) and his sisters Lorraine McEwen, Anne Roberts (Dave), Nora Quitno (Neal) and Kate Baird (Ted). He was proceeded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law John McEwen.

Pursuant to his wishes, family and friends will join in a party in KCK at a future date. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to: SynGAP Research Fund, Resurrection Catholic School at the Cathedral, KVC Foundation or Kansas Special Olympics.

Was sorry to hear about Steve's passing. He was a good friend of ours here in Alamos, Mexico. Steve was a gentle man that truly loved his family and friends.

My family and I are very sad to finally hear about Steve's passing. We knew him as Uncle Father Steve. He was very much "part of our family" in Cathedral City, CA. You are greatly missed. Rest in peace.

It's been over 40 years since I last spoke with Steve (we called him "Fos" in those days. We shared the same birthdate to the year and celebrated our 30th by going to see "Fame". He was one of the nicest guys I'd ever met and always thought he would eventually become a Catholic brother. Thinking of him last night and found this obituary. So sorry to see this but I know he was welcomed into the kingdom and knows peace.

I knew and loved Steve Foster. A man of many talents. A kind and gentle soul. Sorrowed to learn he passed away. We were friends in grade school, high school, kept in touch and ran into each other many times during college and after graduation. Fond memories of those days. My condolence to the Foster family. Steve is in my thoughts and prayers.

Sorry to hear about Steve's passing. I went to Rockhurst with Tom, which is where I met Steve. Later, we kept bumping into each other at KU and always enjoyed hanging out. We lost touch over the years, but I always had fond memories of those years.
