Died: Dec. 5, 2015

Daniel P. O'Gara, age 78, of Batavia, Illinois, passed away in his home on Saturday, December 5, 2015, after a brave battle with cancer.

He was born on January 30, 1937, in Chicago to Viateur and Mary Ellen (Collins) O'Gara.

Dan attended Leo High School and was a graduate of the University of Notre Dame. He taught Language Arts in the St. Charles School District for over 30 years, first at Haines Junior High, and then Wredling Middle School, retiring in 2000. Dan loved reading, traveling to Europe with his wife, annual golf trips to Ireland with his brother, Larry, watching Notre Dame football and spending time with his family. Following retirement, he enjoyed a weekday routine of attending Mass and breakfast with a special group of guys and working out at Delnor Wellness Center. Dan recently celebrated 50 years of marriage with his wife Linda (Anderson), whom he wed on August 28, 1965. He and his wife were faithful parishioners of Holy Cross Catholic Church for over 40 years.

He is survived by his wife; children Maren (Lance) Vanderhagen of Batavia, Sean of Chicago, Molly of Batavia, and Katie (Chris) Dall of Elburn; grandchildren Keira, Brenna, Emma, and Tilly; brothers Thomas (Judy) O'Gara of Wilmette, the Honorable Lawrence of Chicago, and Martin (Gerlinde) of Germany; sister-in-law Barbara Anderson of Maine; many nieces and nephews; and his dog Daisy.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents; brothers John and Fr. James; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Roy and Ida Anderson; brother-in-law Bruce, and niece Patty O'Gara Wold.

Funeral prayers will be held on Thursday, December 10, 2015 at 9:30 am at Malone Funeral Home 324 E. State Street (Route 38), Geneva, proceeding to Holy Cross Catholic Church, 2300 W. Dan was a lovely person and dedicated teacher I grew to know and respect from our language arts involvement in St. Charles. I am so sorry to learn of his passing.

I am very sorry to hear of your husband's passing. I was reminded of you when Diversey Foundry came up on "You know you're from Geneva" and you commented on the clean sand. Your comment was very nice and brought back fond memories. Please know you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
