Anthony Blum Obituary

Broken Bow resident, 24

ANSLEY - Anthony Dale Blum, 24, of Broken Bow, formerly of the Hildreth-Minden area, died Friday, June 1, 2012, as a result of a traffic accident near Ansley.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hildreth with the Revs. Steve and Patti Byrne officiating. Burial will be at Minden Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. Tuesday at Layton-Craig Funeral Home in Minden.

He was born Aug. 8, 1987, in Minden to Dale and Jane (Schwartz) Blum.

Survivors include his parents of Hildreth; brothers, Gavin and Carson Blum, both of Hildreth; grandmother, Jacqueline Schwartz of Minden; grandfather, George Blum of Fremont; special family friend, Carl Ashman; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He grew up in the Hildreth-Minden area and graduated from Minden High School in 2006. Anthony attended the University of Nebraska at Kearney and graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a bachelor's degree in business education.

He taught business education and was the boys basketball coach and FBLA adviser in Broken Bow. The Minden and Broken Bow teams made a special bond during the time Anthony coached. While in Lincoln, he helped coach basketball at Lincoln High School.

Anthony loved coaching and, as he coached, he was always teaching. He also coached baseball and refereed many games. He loved to golf, especially with his family.

His family was very close to him. They all enjoyed singing; the family trips to Mexico with special family friends Steve and Jody Casper; playing cards with the family; and sports of all kinds.

Anthony enjoyed following the Braves, Cowboys, Magic and Huskers. He was a sociable person who always had a smile on his face. He loved God, his family, kids and coaching, and he truly felt that Broken Bow was his new home.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Jacqueline Elaine; brother, Phillip John; grandfather, Jack Schwartz; and grandmother, Elaine Blum.

Memorials are suggested in his name.

Dale, Jane, Gavin, and Carson,
Words cannot describe what you are feeling for your loss. The loss of a child is the hardest thing that one will go through in life. Anthony always brought a smile to my face when I would see him in Keene. My prayers are with you and your family at this most difficult time. When a loved one becomes a memory, that memory becomes a treasure.

Jane, Dale, Gavin and Carson,
We've been grieving with you in the loss of such a special person. We recall fun times in 4-H and playing basketball for Axtell against Minden with Anthony. Words never express the depth of comfort you wish to convey when such a tragic event happens to others. No one will ever be able to say enough to fill the void - but do know that Anthony's life touched many and know that others are remembering the good times and pray for healing for your family.

It has been said, parents should not out live their children. This tragic loss of your Anthony can be just about all your hearts can handle. He sounds like someone I would have liked instantly. I lost my son 4 years ago in a much different way. I just want you to know God has given the world a blessing in loving Anthony. My children went to Midland Lutheran and I understand so did Gavin.
