Myron Haines Obituary

Kearney resident, 84

ATHENS, Ga. - Myron E. Haines, 84, of Kearney, Neb., died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, in Athens.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Feb. 2 at First Presbyterian Church in Kearney.

Whitlock Mortuary in Toccoa is in charge of the arrangements.

He was born July 6, 1928, in Casper, Wyo., to Daniel and Betsy (Stillson) Haines.

He married Evalyn Meabon. She preceded him in death.

Survivors include his sons and their wives, Wayne and Teresa Haines of Toccoa, Gordon and Kathryn Haines of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Gary and Robin Haines of Belleville, Ill.; daughter, Marcia Lowe and her husband, Andrew, of Kearney; grandchildren, Alisha Lee and her husband, Turner, Michaela Haines, Mallory Haines, Brianna Haines, Nicholas Haines, Hunter Haines, Claire Haines, Caelyn Haines, Caleb Haines, Ryan Haines and Nathan Haines; and great-grandson, Noah Lee.

He was a life-long educator whose love of teaching went beyond the classroom. A graduate of Hastings College and the University of Nebraska at Kearney, he dedicated his life to the advancement of education. One of his contributions, for example, was introduction of computers into the classrooms.

Myron was an elder in First United Presbyterian Church in Kearney and was active in Christian music and education. He was a man of many interests and an enthusiastic outdoorsman who loved the mountains and streams. He also loved model trains and collected them. He was a founder of the 1733 Barbershop Chorus and a charter member of Dobytown Kiwanis.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years.

Mr Haines, was one of my favorite teachers in middle school/jr. high. I kept in touch with him after school and he never forgot his students. What a wonderful man he was. Prayers for all the families.
