Richard "Dick" P. Madsen, age 76 of Litchfield, Neb., passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2025 at CHI Health – St. Francis in Grand Island, Neb. A rosary will be held on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at 5 p.m. at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Hazard, Neb., with visitation to follow until 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will take place Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., officiated by Father Richard Piontkowski. Burial will follow at the Litchfield Cemetery, with a luncheon afterward at the Winter's Building in Litchfield. Memorials are suggested to Litchfield Volunteer Fire and Rescue, care of the family. Richard P. Madsen passed away peacefully on July 31, 2025, in Grand Island, Neb. His wife, Linda, was by his side at his passing.
Dick was born in Loup City, Neb., and spent his life in Nebraska. He built a life centered around family, faith, and community. He married the love of his life, Linda (Zimmer), on August 22, 1970, in Pleasanton, Neb. Together, they built a home filled with love, laughter, and shared adventures.
Dick and Linda raised Angus cattle and farmed for many years, but his true work passion was being a brick layer. He worked on various commercial and residential projects where he was known for expecting perfection.
A true outdoorsman at heart, Dick had a passion for fast pitch softball, hunting, fishing, and boating. He was never happier than when teaching his grandchildren the arts of bow hunting, rifle hunting, and fishing. He loved watching his sons and grandchildren play sports and was their proudest fan. Dick also enjoyed puzzles, polka dancing, playing cards, watching Westerns and was known for doing backflips at various dances-always with a laugh that could light up a room.
Dick was a proud member of Pheasants Forever, the NRA, the Elks Foundation, Ducks Unlimited, and the Knights of Columbus #5455. He also served his community as a former member of both the Litchfield School Board and the Sherman County Fair Board. He served his church as a past trustee of the St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Hazard, Neb.
One of Dick's proudest moments was going on a Tiger Cruise with his son, Jason, aboard the USS Carl Vinson, a memory he cherished deeply.
Dick is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 55 years, Linda; sons, Jason (Billie) and Justin (Adriane); grandchildren, Lane, Morgan, and Cora; and his brother, Jim (Mary).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Iona; and his grandparents, Cora & Martin Madsen and Otha & Christina Lovitt.
Dick will be remembered for his generous spirit, love of life, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends.
