Robert G. Armstrong III
Robert G. Armstrong III, 60 of Kearney passed away Tuesday, February 20th, 2024 at CHI Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 6th, 2024 at O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney with Pastor John Gosswein officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 5th, 2024 at the funeral home.
Rob was born April 5, 1963 in Fremont, NE to Robert Armstrong, II and Patricia (Schlichtemeier) Armstrong. He was raised near Bassett, NE and graduated from Rock County High School in 1981. Rob went on to attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity and played football for the Cornhuskers from 1981-1984 where he was part of two Orange Bowl teams.
Growing up, Rob enjoyed playing multiple sports, hunting with his dog Buck, fishing at Harlan's pond, working on the ranch, playing cards, and riding his horse, Gidget. Rob loved to sing throughout his entire life and was even known to sing at a wedding or two.
Rob was united in marriage to Debra Griffith on December 12, 1987 in Lincoln, NE. To this union he was blessed with two children.
After college, Rob returned to Bassett and worked with his mother, Pat at Armstrong Agency and raised his young family. Rob eventually moved to Minden where he continued his work in the insurance industry. His final move took him to Kearney where he first worked at Killion Motors and then Central Hydraulics.
Rob was very involved with the American Legion Club and spent many evenings having dinner with friends. Most of all, Rob loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and family.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Trace (Hannah) Armstrong and Callie (Dalton) Kenning; grandchildren, Collins Armstrong and Maverick Kenning; father, Tom Thompson, Lincoln, NE; brothers, Michael (Roxann) Armstrong, Rockton, IL, Troy (Nancy) Thompson, Bella Vista, AR; sister, Kim (Dale) Theisen of Lincoln, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Rob was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Angel Dreher.
Memorials are suggested to the Kearney American Legion. Condolences may be shared online at www.osrfh.com. Services are entrusted to O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral and Cremation Services.
